Unknown suspects damages light pole

On Feb 1, law enforcement was dispatched to Pecan Hills Apartments in reference to damage to property. The maintenance manager of the property reported a damaged light pole valued at $500 and two bushes valued at $250 that were run over. Ring doorbell camera footage showed a silver SUV on Jan. 31 hit the bushes and then it could be reportedly heard hitting the light pole. No tags were visible in the video nor was it clear the make and model of the silver SUV. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.

Flooring materials stolen from Highland Avenue

On Feb. 1, law enforcement was dispatched to Highland Avenue in reference to burglaries at several residences. Reportedly a work crew arrived at a property they were working on and discovered a bedroom window sustained heavy damage and a kitchen window had also been damaged. In addition, approximately 18 boxes of flooring material were taken from inside. The total cost of damages to the windows was valued at $1,500 and the cost to replace the flooring materials was valued at $1,700.

A secondary report states that another residence also sustained damage to one of the bedroom windows at the location.

Upon inspection, it appeared a tool was used to try and pry the window open.

The window will cost $500 to replace. A third residence was also reported to have a kitchen window cracked. Upon inspection, it also appeared a tool was used to try and pry the window open. It will cost $500 to replace. All attempts to break into the residences were unsuccessful.

Drunk driver collides with other vehicles on Lake Laurel Road

On Feb. 3, law enforcement responded to 211 Lake Laurel Road in reference to a multi-vehicle motor collision. Upon arrival at the location, the reporting officer was notified that the driver of a Ford Mustang, Eric Cummings, smelled of alcohol. Cummings admitted to drinking one Fireball that was observed in the vehicle. According to the report, Cummings was unable to tell the officer what happened or where he was going.

EMS transported Cummings to Atrium Navicent Health Baldwin for medical treatment. A warrant for DUI (alcohol) was secured for Cummings along with citations for driving while license suspended or revoked, open container in vehicle driving motor vehicle with invalid registration or suspended vehicle tag registration, and failure to maintain lane.

Stolen vehicle retrieved in Putnam County

On Feb. 4, law enforcement was dispatched to Old Williamsburg Road in reference to a vehicle theft. The owner of the vehicle reported that Jamie Blackmoon took the vehicle when he was asleep at his home the previous day. The owner contacted Blackmoon who stated they would return the vehicle but never did. Eventually, Lt. Roberts of Putnam County notified law enforcement that the vehicle was located near a boat ramp parking lot. The vehicle was returned to its owner and a warrant was secured on Blackmoon for theft by taking.

Unknown suspect steals loaded card

On Feb. 4, law enforcement responded to CVS on North Columbia Street regarding shoplifting. According to an employee, an unknown female subject attempted to purchase a Netsend prepaid credit card in the amount of $490 while being checked out. Upon completion of the scanning of her items, the employee attempted to contact the manager regarding the transaction. During the phone conversation, the unknown female reportedly appeared on video surveillance switching the prepaid card with an additional card, placed the loaded card into her pocket and left the store.

According to the report, the female subject advised she was going to get additional payment and would return but did not. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.

Individual arrested on DUI

On Feb. 5, a law enforcement officer pulled over Kenneth Veal for not having a functioning passenger side brake light. Upon initiating the traffic stop and approaching Veal, he reportedly had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The reporting officer was notified Veal had a revoked driver's license. When asked to step out of the vehicle, the odor of an alcoholic beverage overflowed from the vehicle and Veal stated that he had been drinking the previous night. Veal called someone to come pick up his vehicle and a probable cause search of the alcoholic odor in Veal's vehicle led to the recovery of a half full 32 oz can of Miller High Life beer under the front passenger seat. In the trunk of the vehicle was another empty can of Miller High Life. Veal was issued citations for DUI (alcohol), open container, driving while license revoked and brake lights.
