Man caught with 3 loaded firearms
On Dec. 26, law enforcement was dispatched to Oconee Street in reference to a subject with a weapon. While enroute to the location, dispatch advised the subject was leaving in a red 2021 Jeep Compass. Lieutenant Thompson eventually initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for driving without headlights as it pulled into the driveway at 207 Pritchard Street. A male later identified as, Ulonzo Veal, exited the vehicle and started to walk to the residence.
According to the report, Thompson began giving verbal commands to Veal to stop where he was but Veal bolted.
During the foot pursuit, Veal threw two firearms. Eventually, Veal followed verbal commands and was contained.
Veal advised a third firearm was in his pants and it was confiscated. He told law enforcement the firearms were his mother’s and that he only ran because the firearms were in the vehicle. The three firearms recovered were a Beretta 92FS with four rounds in the magazine, a Beretta 92FS with six rounds in the magazine and a Taurus G2C with five rounds in the magazine. Veal was charged with operating a motor vehicle without headlights, driving while unlicensed, two counts of willful obstruction of officers, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Unknown individual attempts to break into residence
On Dec. 27, law enforcement was dispatched to North Elbert Street in reference to damage to property. The complainant reported that his work crew returned to work, after the holiday break, and noticed a window inside the location sustained damage to the interior locking mechanisms. The cost to replace the window would be approximately $1,000. According to the report, although the damage to the exterior of the windows was minor, it was evident some tool was used to attempt to gain entry into the buildings; however, they were unsuccessful in their attempts. No charges were filed due to there being no security cameras in the area to assist with identifying an offender.
Shots fired at Brantley Way
On Dec. 27, law enforcement responded to the area of 2400 Brantley Way in reference to shots fired. Home owners in the area stated they only heard the shots fired but did not see anything. According to the report, Sergeant Thomas stated two subjects were in their vehicle when he arrived on scene a few feet away from where the shell casings were located. These witnesses advised Thomas that they heard gunshots but did not see where they came from. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Burglar steals $1,500 worth of shoes
On Dec. 28, law enforcement was dispatched to an apartment on Anthony Way in reference to a burglary. When the residents returned home, they discovered the back door to their residence open and the inside trashed. Four pairs of shoes were reported missing with an estimated value of $1,560. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, no suspects have been identified.
