Pursuit ensues on State Route 49 On Nov. 17, law enforcement noted a vehicle was traveling east on State Route 49 at 88 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. When an officer attempted to make a traffic stop, they accelerated to 105 miles per hour. A pursuit ensued until a police officer used their vehicle to block the car’s path near Frank Bone Road. No other vehicles or pedestrians were passed during the pursuit. A search of the vehicle and driver yielded small amounts of marijuana, a rifle and three open containers of alcohol. The driver, identified as Devontae Clopton was issued warrants for speeding, reckless driving, open container in vehicle and felony fleeing/attempting to elude law enforcement. Man asks for change from counterfeit bill

On Nov. 15, law enforcement was dispatched to Super Inn in reference to forgery. According to management, an employee provided a male subject change for a counterfeit $100 bill. The employee suspected it of being counterfeit and contacted the male subject.

According to the report, the subject was identified as Robert Stevenson and he reportedly told the employee that if they inquired further about the bill then he would make sure they got hurt.

Surveillance footage showed Stevenson passing the bill to the employee and taking his change before leaving. The employee is then seen comparing the bill to an actual $100 bill before placing it in the drawer. The counterfeit bill was confiscated and entered into evidence.

A warrant for forgery (first degree) was secured for Stevenson.

Store manager pockets $3,000

On Nov. 16, law enforcement was dispatched to Roses Departmental Store in reference to a theft. According to the regional loss prevention manager, store manager Jasmine Knight took a cash deposit on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8 and did not turn the deposit over to Truist Bank. Video surveillance showed Knight placing the money deposit envelope into her backpack on Nov. 8, closing the store early and leaving the store.

The loss prevention manager confirmed with Truist Bank and the Roses Home Store the deposit of $3,088.27 was not received. Knight was terminated from Roses due to failure to come to work.

Warrants were secured for Knight for felony theft by taking.

Woman steals food and cosmetics from Walmart

On Nov. 17, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to shoplifting. Reportedly, Jessica Scarbary doubled up on items and failed to scan two cosmetic items. She passed the point of sale and was stopped and escorted to the Asset Protection office.

According to an employee in the office, Scarbary became verbally irate but later complied when she was informed of police being called. It was also reported that Scarbary failed to pay for a case of Sprite and a frozen pizza. The total amount of the theft was $30.17. She admitted fault for attempting to steal the cosmetics but stated the food products were accidental. Scarbary was cited for theft by shoplifting, trespassed from Walmart, and escorted off the property.

On Nov. 18, law enforcement was dispatched to Marshall Road in reference to an armed robbery. According to the victim, he was on the way home from Rod’s Stop and Shop with the $2,000 store deposit. They were going to drive on Marshall Road to cut through onto Log Cabin Road.

However, he advised that he thought someone was following him and that he believed the vehicle was also following him the previous night. Therefore, he made a loop around on Hudson Drive and returned to Marshall Road when he did not see the car anymore. While driving on Marshall Road, two males flagged him down on the roadway.

The victim informed law enforcement that he thought they needed help, so he came to a stop and rolled his windows down. Upon doing so, the two subjects produced black handguns, one on each side of the vehicle, and told the victim to give them everything he had. He gave the males a black grocery bag that contained $2,000 in assorted bills.

According to the report, the males ran up Marshall Road on foot towards Log Cabin after receiving the bag. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there are no suspects.

Monument vandalized near East Greene Street

On Nov. 20, law enforcement was patrolling the area of East Greene Street and South Jefferson Street. An officer noticed the monument in the median of the intersection was vandalized.

Both soldiers were covered in paint. No other vandalism was observed to the monument, nor was there any evidence left on scene. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
