Bobcat volleyball’s Roberts among nationally ranked

Georgia College & State University (GSCU) Volleyball (9-11, 5-4 PBC) has a wall at the net and that’s in great part thanks to middle blocker Brooke Roberts, from Rome. Roberts not only ranks nationally in two different blocking categories, but also is within the top 10 for both.

The first is the total number of blocks she has made so far this season. Going into this past Tuesday’s match against conference foe USC Aiken, Roberts had 90 blocks total, which was good for sixth overall nationally and just five behind the number-one spot held by Jenna Schutte of the University of Central Missouri.

Roberts also holds a top-10 ranking in blocks per set, currently sitting at 1.29 blocks per set, placing her ninth overall. Schutte also holds the number-one spot in this category with 1.53 blocks per set.

The last time a Bobcat middle was nationally ranked in blocks at this point in the season was last fall when current middle blocker Mary Kate Kotzin had 74 blocks, tied with teammate Sarah Mangan to hold the 13th overall position.

Within the Peach Belt Conference, Roberts ranks first overall in total blocks. She also has the most blocks in a single game in the conference and in Georgia College history. The previous owner of the most blocks in a single game is teammate Kotzin. The Bobcats are back in action Oct. 14, against Young Harris College in GSCU’s Centennial Center. It’s senior night for the lone senior on the Bobcats team, Emily Long from Mooresville, N.C., with first serve set for 5 p.m. and live stats and broadcast links available at GCBobcats.com.
