Georgia College & State University Soccer (4-3-1, 3-0 PBC) defender Katelyn Smith hailing from Augusta claims the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Defender of the Week honor.
Smith is a left-back for the GCSU soccer team and was an instrumental part in the Bobcats picking up two conference wins over USC Beaufort and Georgia Southwestern State University. Smith got the start in both conference contests and leads the defense thus far in her senior campaign. Through two games, the Bobcat defense only allowed 11 shots on goal to secure two wins.
This is the first PBC Defender of the Week honor of Smith’s career as a bobcat. This is the first honor since the fall of 2019 season for a GCSU defender as Erin Ferris, won it in her senior campaign as well.
Smith is a three-year starter for the Bobcats and has played for two different coaches in her career.
“Katelyn is a solid outside back and a key part of our defense,” said goalkeeper Kate Richardson. “She has made numerous keeper saves to keep us in games. Her experience and leadership help keep our backline organized and strong this season. I have loved playing with her these past four years.”
The team applauds Smith for her hard work and efforts to secure them wins and look forward to seeing her grow even more as the season continues.
