Bobcat soccer 3-1 in conference play

Georgia College & State University soccer started off the conference stronger than ever taking three wins early.

The Bobcats started their conference skate with Young Harris College. The bobcats took the 1-0 second-half win. The lone goal of the contest was scored in the 64th minute of the match off the foot of Ava Martin from Gainesville. The defense for GCSU dominated that contest only allowing seven shots on goal. The goalkeeper hailing from Marietta, Kate Richardson, picked up her second shutout of the season along with five saves. There were seven total saves with Zelia Griffith from Livonia, Mich., and Morgan Amrozowicz from Dacula picking up the other two to uphold the shutout.

The next win for the bobcats was the midweek contest on the road at USC Beaufort where the bobcats picked up the 2-1 victory. GCSU scored both goals in the second half with the first goal coming in the 47th minute off the foot of Amrozowicz on the assist from the West Suffield, Conn. native Alexis Bergamini. Martin followed suit and scored the game-winner in the 57th minute on the assist from fellow freshman Sarah Martin hailing from Atlanta. Richardson had a single save in the contest and allowed the lone goal in the first half.

The Bobcats continued to stay hot going into the third game of the conference season. Georgia Southwestern State University made the trip to Bobcat Field and took a 2-0 loss. Mason scored the first goal unassisted in the 72nd minute on the cross from Covington native Aralyn Everett. Come the 83rd minute of the match Amrozowicz scored the second goal on the assist from Mason to solidify the win. Goalkeeper Richardson secured her second conference shutout of the season with six saves.

The Bobcat offense is very hot in the second half of each contest as all five of their conference goals have come after the half. Through the first three games, the Bobcats have only allowed one goal in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play. To round out the conference matches thus far in the season, the Bobcats played the national ranked Flagler College. The Bobcats took a tough 3-0 loss.

Pending the weather from hurricane Ian, bobcat soccer will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. to take on conference foe USC Aiken. Live stats and broadcast links are available at GCBobcats.com.
