Woman engages in fight at Jet Food Store

On Aug. 16, law enforcement was dispatched to the Jet Food Store in reference to a fight. An officer made contact with Alexis Akesh Hill who stated she got into a physical fight with Q’Teeba Vonsha Wesley over past personal issues and rumors being spread. Reportedly, Hill began the fight after slapping away a finger Wesley pointed in her face. Wesley left the scene before the arrival of law enforcement, but surveillance footage allowed an officer to see the license plate of the vehicle she drove away in and locate contact information. According to Wesley, she was pumping gas when Hill approached her in an aggressive manner and swung at her. Wesley claimed to have defended herself and left the scene to take her father to a doctor’s appointment. Video footage supported Wesley’s report of events. Hill was cited for disorderly conduct.

Two subjects break window at residence

On Aug. 17, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence in reference to damage to property. Two housing authority maintenance employees reported observing two black male subjects inside of the residence. One male was described to be thin with short black hair wearing a white t-shirt and shorts with a black pistol in his possession. The second male was described to have to be tall with a medium build and black dreads and wearing a black t-shirt and shorts. One employee explained that he approached the home and advised the pair that they were not allowed inside the residence. Reportedly, the two men left after this confrontation. Upon further investigation of the home, the employees observed the south bedroom windows to be broken with a cinder block on the floor but did not see any other damage or missing property. Estimated repairs for the window are expected to exceed $500. No suspects have been identified at the time of publication.

Man damages soda machine during argument

On Aug. 20, law enforcement was dispatched to Super Inn & Suites in reference to damage to property. The complainant reported seeing a male, later identified as Wimund Lagway, punch a soda machine in the lobby after getting in a female’s face. Reportedly, Lagway was irate and yelling at the female while she was against the wall.

When the manager of the establishment opened his door, the female left the scene and Lagway returned to his room. Lagway told an officer he tripped over something when he hit the soda machine. The female later arrived on scene again and stated that Lagway followed her around while she was going back to her room and became irate after she refused to get back together with him. Supposedly, as she was walking towards the office to feel safe, Lagway threw himself at the soda machine.

Lagway was charged with criminal damage to property (second degree).

Shoplifting at Walmart

On Aug. 22, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to shoplifting. A Loss Prevention personnel stated she observed a female, later identified as Liberty Harris, not scan some items and place them into her cart. Harris attempted to walk past the last point of sale but was apprehended. She was unable to produce a receipt for the items in her cart when asked. The total amount in unpaid items was $176.46. Harris was given a citation for theft by shoplifting less than $500.00.

Vehicle pursuit on North Columbia Street

On Aug. 21, law enforcement observed a Toyota Tacoma traveling with its driver side headlight not operating. An officer attempted to do a traffic stop but the vehicle began to accelerate. A vehicle pursuit began as the Toyota continued traveling south on North Columbia Street at approximately 75 mph. After passing the Child Care Network, pursuit speeds began to lower and law enforcement was able to position vehicles in front and behind the Toyota to prohibit further attempts of fleeing. The driver was identified as Jackson Pope.

Identification showed that Pope’s license was suspended. Pope was charged with defective equipment, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and felony fleeing and attempting to elude officers. The passengers in the vehicle were released without any charges.
