After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Milledgeville will host its annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration on Saturday, July 2, just after dark on the campus of Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC).
Once again, the City and CGTC are collaborating to make this event possible for the community.
“The City of Milledgeville is excited to bring back this event for the community, and we are thrilled to work with CGTC again on this venture,” stated Melba Hilson-Butts, Chief of Staff, and coordinator for the fireworks event. “With the help of CGTC, we have been able to provide memorable fireworks shows over the last few years, and we anticipate that this year’s show will be a spectacular event as well.”
“We are so happy to support the Milledgeville city fireworks,” said Dr. Tatrabian Jackson, Director for Satellite Operations at Central Georgia Technical College.
“Central Georgia Technical College provides invaluable educational and economic resources to thousands of Georgians across our 11-county service area, and we are so proud that Milledgeville is part of it. GCTC is part of this community, and as a show of partnership, we are grateful to have the opportunity to participate.”
Planning for this event is a team effort that requires the expertise of both entities to ensure a successful show.
In addition to the efforts involved in securing the site and the fireworks vendor, the Public Works department works in tandem with CGTC’s staff to blockade the site so that it will be safe for the pyrotechnics crew as well as onlookers.
The Milledgeville Fire Department is on hand at the initial set up of the firing site and remains on campus until the last shell is collected.
The Milledgeville Police Department also positions itself in key areas to monitor and assist with the flow of traffic at the show’s conclusion.
The fireworks show has become an enjoyable summer pastime for the community and draws in Milledgeville natives as well as spectators from surrounding communities.
The City of Milledgeville will utilize the services of Zambelli Fireworks, located in Boca Raton, Florida, to provide the fireworks entertainment.
