GMC Prep Fine Arts Director wins national award

Georgia Military College Preparatory School (GMC Prep) Fine Arts Director Mark Weaver has been named the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Outstanding Theatre Educator Section Winner.

Weaver’s outstanding contributions to theatre education have earned him this esteemed recognition from the NFHS, highlighting his dedication, passion, and transformative impact on students throughout his 29-year career.

The NFHS has carefully chosen 56 individuals to receive the Outstanding Performing Arts Educator Awards, which recognize excellence in music, speech and debate, and theatre education. 

As the section three winner, Weaver emerged victorious among candidates from eight states, including Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida, making him a standout theatre educator in the Southeast.

Throughout his career, Weaver has been an inspiration, nurturing the talents and passions of countless students. His tenure at Baldwin High School, from 2002 to 2010, saw remarkable success with One-Act play and literary teams consistently achieving excellence, securing state championships and individual awards. 

Since joining GMC Prep, Weaver has continued to make a profound impact, with 12 consecutive Region Literary Team Championships, eight consecutive State Literary Team Championships, and seven State Championships for One-Act Plays over the past decade.
