GMC Board of Trustees name sole finalist for next president

>> NEW LEADER

After an extensive and thorough search, the Georgia Military College Board of Trustees named Maj. Gen. Terrence McKenrick, USA (Ret) as the sole finalist for the 22nd President of Georgia Military College. This is a dual-hatted role recognized within the State of Georgia as the Superintendent of the Preparatory School and the President of the Junior College, with overall responsibility for the Corps of Cadets.

With 35 years of service in the U.S. Army, including command positions across the globe, McKenrick brings extensive leadership experience from his roles in largescale operations and strategic planning. His distinguished career includes serving as deputy commanding general of V Corps and commanding general of Division East, among other key positions. Partnering with Parker Executive Search Firm, the search launched in August 2024 brought forth a diverse and highly qualified candidate pool.

Parker received 25 nominations, which expanded through a network of referrals, resulting in 17 applications, 16 of which were qualified.

The Presidential Search Committee, chaired by GMC Board of Trustees Chairman George Hogan, was comprised of 10 individuals committed to selecting the best leader for Georgia Military College’s future. The committee was charged with screening applications to narrow the distinguished list to three on-campus finalists.

The job announcement went live in August 2024, with applications closing on March 16, 2025. The search yielded 16 applications from General Flag Officers across four military service branches, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, with six one-star generals, six two-star generals, and four three-star generals.

The majority (10) were Army-affiliated. Notably, this search included the same number of flag officer applications as the previous search when Lt.

Gen. Caldwell was hired in 2013.

Following a series of comprehensive evaluations, GMC’s search committee interviewed seven finalists, ultimately narrowing the field to three candidates for on-campus interviews.

Virtual and on-campus interviews took place between March 18 and April 2. During their two-day visits, the finalists toured the campus, engaged with multiple levels of leadership, and participated in a town hall event where the GMC workforce had the opportunity to hear candidates’ thoughts on why they were the best fit as the next president of GMC.

The GMC Board of Trustees met on April 8 to identify the sole finalist and selected McKenrick.

Georgia Law requires a 14-day public review period before the GMC Board of Trustees can finalize its selection.
