Drunk driver caught doing donuts
On Oct. 10 law enforcement was dispatched to the area of Frank Bone Road and Ivey Drive in reference to a white GMC pickup truck doing donuts and spinning its tires in the roadway.
Upon arrival the report states, “smoke was still in the air and the smell of burned tire rubber was overpowering.” The reporting officer noted several fresh burn out and tire marks in the intersection in a circular and zig zag pattern. The driver, identified as Kesner Alemendarez-Matute, was stopped by another officer at 112 N. Main St.
Officers noticed rubber chunks and residue along the fender of the vehicle, just outside the wheel well and inside the wheel well, and the tires were hot to the touch. All of the rubber and residue was consistent with doing recent burnouts. When asked, Alemendarez-Matute admitted to having a few alcoholic drinks.
He consented to a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and was deemed unsafe to drive. He also provided a sufficient breath sample with a result of 0.160 BrAC.
Alemendarez-Matute was arrested for driving under the influence, failure to stop for a stop sign, knowingly driving a motor vehicle on suspended, canceled, or revoked registration, and reckless driving.
Employee steals cigarettes from Jet Food Store
On Oct. 10, law enforcement responded to the Jet Food Store, at 301 E. McIntosh St., in reference to shoplifting.
The manager caught an employee, Kelesha Robbins, stealing cartons of Newport Cigarettes off the shelf behind the counter. The manager stated she came in early this morning to review video when she saw Robbins take two cartons of Newports off the shelf and put them into a large plastic bag and walk back to the deli area where she was assigned. Reviewing a little bit further, Hancock saw Robbins put four cartons of Newports into the plastic trash bag on Sept 30 and stashing the garbage bag in a corner. After the manager on duty walked past her, she picked up the garbage bag and left from behind the counter.
The manager was able to provide a receipt for six cartons of Newports which totaled $469.08 before taxes. A warrant for misdemeanor theft by taking was secured against Robbins.
Employee caught shoplifting over three months
On Oct. 11, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.
Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. An employee, identified as Robert Upton, was caught on surveillance footage not scanning items starting back on Aug. 7 and continuing until Oct. 2. There were eight separate incidents with the total amount being $73.17. A warrant for theft by taking was secured against Upton.
