Man arrested for outstanding warrants

On Sept. 29, law enforcement responded to 158 Ebony Lounge Rd. in reference to an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on Charles Thomas.

Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with a male at the front door who was not the person they were looking for. The male allowed them to check inside the residence. One officer knocked on a bedroom door and, after some time passed, a male, later identified as Cecil Cover, answered the door. The lights were off inside the bedroom and Cover initially only cracked the door. Cover refused to identify himself numerous times and a deputy advised Cover he was being detained. Cover refused to place his hands behind his back so the deputy used his taser to stun Cover. Cover was given additional verbal commands to place his hands behind his back and complied and was placed under arrest.

Cover had outstanding warrants for probation violation and two counts of simple battery. When searching the bedroom, law enforcement located a .20 gauge shotgun next to a dresser inside of a camouflage gun case. The room that Cover and the firearm were located in was approximately 8 feet by 10 feet, and the firearm was at all times within immediate reach and control of Cover. Additional warrants on Cover for misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon were secured.
