Tools stolen from Arnall Building
On Sept. 11, law enforcement was dispatched to The Arnall Building, at 2271 Vinson Highway, in reference to a theft that already occurred. The complainant checked the location due to having trailers with tools in them in the area. He noticed one of the trailer's doors was open and the locking mechanism was cut. Various tools were reported missing including: sockets, bolt cutters, pliers and other miscellaneous tools/equipment. The estimated value of the items based on what he saw missing was approximately $500 or more.
Drunk driver causes collision on State Route 29 On Sept. 12, law enforcement was dispatched to a vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 29 and State Route 29 Business. It was reported that one of the vehicles had been traveling on the wrong side of the road. A witness reported that one driver, Steve Purvis, was turning left from State Route 29 Business onto State Route 29 with a green light when Robert Youngblood, in the wrong lane, ran a red light and struck Purvis' vehicle on the driver's side. While investigating the scene, an open bottle of Jose Cuervo Tequila was observed in the back passenger seat of Youngblood's vehicle. A deputy conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing on Youngblood and concluded he was not fit to drive. Youngblood was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to obey a traffic control device, and open container in the vehicle
Woman caught trying to steal
On Sept. 13, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N.
Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. An employee reported that they were notified of a potential theft. They observed Caroline Xiong standing near the exit door talking on her cell phone with a basket full of merchandise. Xiong passed the last point of sales with the unpaid merchandise, so the employee took her into custody. Xiong attempted to steal $380.60 worth of merchandise. Camera footage corroborated the employee’s story. Xiong was placed under arrest and transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office for theft by shoplifting.
Man steals broken down four wheeler
On Sept. 14, law enforcement made contact with Luis Basurto in reference to a stolen four-wheeler. Basurto stated he last saw his four-wheeler at the intersection of Coombs Avenue and South Jefferson Street. The four-wheeler broke down at the intersection and Basurto left it with the intent to retrieve it later. Reportedly, he later received a call from a witness stating that she saw someone pulling the four-wheeler on a trailer behind a red truck. The witness could give no further details of the make or model of the truck. However, on Sept. 15, a lieutenant observed what appeared to be taillights coming from a field behind the duplex on West Charlton Court. He discovered a male, later identified as John Bridges, working on a four-wheeler with fresh bright green paint still wet to the touch. Due to the four-wheeler possibly being stolen, the lieutenant requested backup. The officers were able to determine that the four-wheeler was stolen based on specifications given by Basurto. A warrant for felony theft by receiving stolen property was secured against Bridges.
