On Aug. 28, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart, at 2592 N. Columbia St., in reference to a shoplifting. Asset Protection personnel stated she was walking through the stores when she observed the offenders, Bettie Rice and Glenda Fitzhugh, as they were concealing several items inside their purses and shirts.
After the females went shopping in the grocery section, they attempted to pass the last point of sale after only paying for a few items. At this point, both subjects were detained in the Asset Protection office and law enforcement was notified. The personnel stated she was aware of as many as ten other instances where the females had committed thefts inside the store, but she was unable to catch them in the act.
They stole 28 items worth $239.88. Due to Rice’s age, Walmart would not prosecute her, however, Fitzhugh was cited for shoplifting. Both females were trespassed from all Walmart locations.
Woman arrested for driving under the influence
On Aug. 29, law enforcement was on patrol on State Route 49 when an officer observed a Silver Toyota Corolla driving above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was traveling 80 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour speed zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Tyesa Rawlings. According to the report, the office immediately detected the odor of marijuana and observed her two-year-old son laying in the front passenger seat, not restrained in a car seat or seat belt. Rawlings informed the officer that she had smoked half a blunt in her vehicle thirty minutes prior to the traffic stop and dropped half a blunt behind her car while she was speaking with him. A deputy responded to the location to conduct a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and determined that Rawlings was impaired. Rawlings was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, speeding, child restraint law, and driving under the influence while endangering the life of a child. Her son and vehicle were turned over to a licensed and sober driver.
Shots fired near West Charlton Court On Aug. 20, law enforcement was dispatched to West Charlton Court in reference to shots being fired in the area. Officers spoke with several subjects who advised they did not see anything but did hear gunshots. Five shell casings were found in the yard of 1218 W.
Charlton Court with one of them being on the sidewalk. There was no property damage observed. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, the incident is still being investigated.
Two traffic stops during highway safety check
On Aug. 31, law enforcement was conducting a highway safety check on Frank Bone Road when an officer observed that a driver of a silver Honda Accord did not have her seat belt on. According to the report, a five-year-old sat in the front passenger seat without a seat belt on and was not in a car seat. When asked her name during the traffic stop, the driver stated it was Shaquliea Milner.
The officer ran the name through GCIC and noticed the picture shown did not resemble the driver. The officer then ran the registered owner of the car through GCIC and identified them as Kenya Milner. The GCIC check also revealed that Milner’s driver's license was suspended.
Milner received citations for driving while license suspended, seat belt violation, and child restraint law. One state warrant for giving a false name and date of birth was also secured against Milner.
Officers also stopped Denario Hubbard during the safety check.
Hubbard handed officers a Georgia Identification Card and stated he did not have a driver’s license on his person.
A GCIC check revealed his driver’s license was suspended. Hubbard was placed under arrest and, while speaking with him, officers noted the odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle but nothing of interest was found. Prior to transporting Hubbard to jail, the officer secured his phone and wallet, where a small pouch of what was suspected to be marijuana was located.
Hubbard received one citation for driving while license suspended. A warrant for possession of methamphetamine was also secured against Hubbard.
Man caught driving on wrong side of the rode
On Sept. 2, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a black pickup truck driving on the wrong side of the road near Brookwood Circle on North Jefferson Street. While speaking with the driver, identified as Latavius Reaves, the officer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person and was able to see an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the cup holder of the truck.
Reaves stated he had only one beer. According to the report, Reaves was walking unsteady on his feet and slurring words.
When asked if he wanted to take a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, Reaves refused. However, he agreed to take a potable breath test. On the PBT, Reaves tested positive for alcohol with an estimation of 0.280. Upon arrival at the jail, Reaves was tested on the Georgia Model Intoxilizer 9000.
Reaves tested positive for alcohol with a breath alcohol content of 0.309 grams. Reaves received a citation for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on the wrong side of the road, and open container in vehicle.
