Roses Express employee steals $1,503
On June 24, law enforcement responded to Roses Express, located at 1031 S. Wayne St., in reference to an employee stealing money from the store. Employee Jamie Turner committed return fraud for the past month and a half. Security footage showed numerous instances of Turner using UPC bar codes, with and without physical merchandise, to return an item and take the cash. Turner was able to steal $1,503.10 by using the return fraud practice. A warrant for felony theft by taking was secured for Turner.
Hit and run injures driver
On June 26, law enforcement was dispatched to 110 N. Main St. in reference to a hit and run. Sandra Harrison stated she was turning left into her driveway off of North Main Street when an unknown vehicle ran into her car on the driver’s side. Another vehicle reportedly came up from behind her and, as she was turning left, the driver of the other vehicle attempted to pass her on the left. The other vehicle backed up and fled the scene. Harrison had a visibly broken arm, which she previously had surgery on. She informed police that it felt as if the surgery repair had broken apart. Technicians with EMS arrived on scene and transported Harrison to Piedmont Hospital in Macon. Harrison was not able to positively identify the make, model, or color of the other vehicle but described it as a dark colored sedan with loud exhaust. Officers attempted to locate a vehicle near the scene and around the time of the incident via FLOCK but were unable to locate any vehicles around that time in that area.
On June 27, an officer returned to the area to search for any cameras in the area that could have captured the incident. They located three potential cameras but all were either inoperable or not available.
Flair for Hair door damaged
On June 27, Flair for Hair, at 215 S.
Wayne St., reported damage to property. The deadbolt on the back door of the establishment was damaged and the glass door keyhole would spin when trying to lock the door. On June 26, the doors were reportedly not damaged. The complainant stated she had cameras but lost footage due to connection problems. Law enforcement observed damage to the deadbolt that had a dent to the top of the lock. There is nothing further as of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline.
Shoplifter caught at Walmart
On June 30, law enforcement was contacted by asset protection at Walmart, at 2592 N. Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. The manager stated she observed a male, later identified as Travares Benford, approach a self-check-out register and fail to scan four items of merchandise, which was valued at $29.67. Bedford completed his transaction and concealed the merchandise inside Walmart grocery bags and passed the last point of sale. Security footage corroborated her story. Bedford was issued a citation for shoplifting and a notice of prohibited entry for Walmart.
Drunk man throws brick at car
On June 30, law enforcement was dispatched to West MLK Jr. Drive in reference to damage to property.
Dawson Evans stated he and his friend, Dustin Hodge, were driving eastbound on West MLK Jr Drive when a male, later identified as Harold Holsey, began throwing rocks and bricks at the vehicle. Holsey reportedly struck the vehicle which led Evans and Holsey to get into a verbal argument. The resident of the home called for law enforcement before a fight ensued and Holsey ran behind the house. Holsey later approached the rear of the patrol vehicle with a brick in his hand while the officer was filling out information for his report. Holsey was instructed to place the brick on the ground but continued to yell at vehicles passing him while waving the brick around. Officers were able to eventually retrieve the brick from his hand and place it on the ground. When asked, Holsey stated he threw a brick at Evans’ vehicle because they had been following him. While speaking with Holsey, an officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and Holsey admitted to drinking several alcoholic beverages. Holsey was then placed under arrest and, while getting in the rear of the patrol car, he shouted that he would blow Evans’ and Hodge’s head off. Warrants for disorderly conduct, felony terroristic threats (2x), and public drunkenness were secured for Holsey.
