Man caught with marijuana on the highway
On Oct. 5, law enforcement was conducting a highway safety check point on Coopers Road and Pancras Road. A vehicle, driven by a male who was later identified as Reginald Williams, approached the safety checkpoint and was asked to present his license. A strong odor of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle so he was asked to pull to the side of the road.
Williams stepped out of the vehicle and informed officers there was a firearm in the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle located a black 9mm Ruger handgun and a grocery bag with what appeared to be more than one ounce of marijuana. Williams was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana-felony and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
On Oct. 8, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence on Quail Place in reference to a theft. Melvin Wiggins reported that his ex-girlfriend Kenisha Hooks stole two checks out of his truck while he was at his current girlfriend’s residence. Wiggins stated that Hooks pulled into the driveway of his girlfriend’s residence with her car, exited her vehicle, and began swearing at him.
Reportedly, she threw a handful of his mail on the ground and pushed him.
When Wiggins looked at his mail, he realized it was mail he left in his truck at a residence on Quail Place. Wiggins also stated the spare key to his truck was missing and he suspected Hooks of stealing it when they were last together.
When he returned to the residence, he checked his truck and noticed his mail, checks, and spare key were missing. His girlfriend told the same story of Hooks coming to her home. Another resident at Greenplace confirmed that Hooks did show up at the residence, though they reported not knowing if she entered the truck or took the mail. Hooks told police that she had visited his residence to see him but then visited the girlfriend’s home after learning they were together.
Hooks claimed that Wiggins threw a beer on her, which is why she pushed him.
However, the reporting officer noted there was no smell of alcohol on her.
Hooks admitted to taking the mail but stated she did not know where the checks were and told police that she only entered the truck to gather her belongings. She also stated that the keys were given to her by Wiggins during a previous argument where he told her to get her things The report does not note any support of whether she had been given the key or not. Warrants were secured on Hooks for simple battery and entering auto.
