Bullet breaks through exterior wall

On June 29, law enforcement was dispatched to Timberlane Road in reference to shots fired. One individual at the residence states she walked outside to her car and went back inside to turn off the lights when she heard the sound of glass shattering. The following morning she investigated the cause of the noise and discovered a bullet hole in her television, drywall, and the exterior wall of the home. Reportedly the resident commonly hears people shooting firearms in a nearby field, which she believes the bullet may have come from.

Man caught with 14 bags of marijuana in pants

On June 29, law enforcement was patrolling in the area of SR 49 when an officer observed a Toyota Corolla traveling west with no tag displayed on the vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana.

The driver, identified as Shawanda Carswell, gave the officer a small bag of marijuana when asked about the smell. Once Deputy Braziel and Sgt. Tapley arrived on scene, the passenger, identified as Travis Thomas, stepped out of the vehicle. Thomas was inquired if he had any weapons and responded no but immediately reached towards his pockets. After a command to keep his hands away from his pockets, officers asked permission to pat Thomas down for weapons. In his pants, they located fourteen bags of marijuana. A warrant for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute was sworn against Travis Thomas and a warrant for possession of marijuana less than one ounce was sworn against Shawanda Carswell.

Group procures marijuana for inmates

On June 30, law enforcement officers with the Milledgeville Police Department were dispatched to the area of Baldwin State Prison in reference to a suspicious vehicle. While checking Lilac Court, an officer observed a 2016 Toyota Camry sitting in the cul-de-sac without any lights on, facing the solar panel field. While speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer was able to smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed several footballs on the floor board in the rear of the vehicle, with tape wrapped around them. A search of the vehicle was conducted and five footballs were opened. The footballs had several cell phones, cell phone chargers, cigarettes, several bags of tobacco, loose tobacco, lighters, and Bugler rolling papers inside. In addition, a purse inside the vehicle had a Burger King receipt with marijuana folded inside it. Zachary Harris, Damascus Phillips, and Camilla Reese, and Precious Carter were transported to the Baldwin County Jail to be interviewed. A jailer informed an officer that Carter had marijuana in her pants upon inspection at the jail. An investigator interviewed the occupants of the vehicle and stated he would be charging Harris, Phillips, and Reese. Carter was informed by law enforcement that she was under arrest for possession of marijuana (less than an ounce) and going inside guardlines with drugs. Zachary Harris, Damascus Phillips, and Camilla Reese were charged for procuring prohibited items for an inmate without authorization.

Man attacks woman on sidewalk

On June 30, law enforcement was dispatched to the Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin emergency room in reference to an assault. A family member of the victim informed police that Felontae Bernard Simmons came to the victim’s residence to pick up belongings and reportedly became irate when the victim was not home. When Simmons saw the victim walking on the sidewalk towards her home, after being dropped off by someone else, he reportedly began to assault her. Simmons pushed the victim to the ground and started stomping on the back of her head with his foot. The family member informed the officer that he aided his mother and Simmons began to dig his fingers into their eye and struggle with them. The relative managed to get Simmons off of him and the victim and Simmons reportedly then left the scene.

Another relative assisted in transporting the victim to the hospital but stated she was not present for the fight. A third witness and the victim confirmed the family member’s story. Results from the CT scan of the victim revealed some head injuries and a possible concussion.

Warrants for aggravated assault (family violence), aggravated stalking (family violence), felony criminal damage to property second degree (family violence), felony cruelty to children in the first degree (family violence) and misdemeanor cruelty to children in the third degree (family violence) were secured for Felontae Simmons.
