Purse stolen from vehicle at Ruby Tuesday’s
On May 30, law enforcement was dispatched to Ruby Tuesday’s, on North Columbia Street, in reference to items being stolen. An employee stated that she arrived for her shift and did not think she left the vehicle unlocked before entering the building. Later, upon returning to her vehicle, she noticed her purse was missing. She reported missing her wallet, driver’s license, social security card, various debit/credit cards, and her iphone 12 Pro-Max. While on scene, she called her phone and an unknown subject answered before hanging up a few seconds later. She was unable to use the Find My iPhone application to determine any location of the phone and no cameras were pointing to her vehicle. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Man escapes police near Pine Avenue
On June 1, an officer patrolling the area of Vinson Highway was alerted that Jeramie Pinkston was driving using a suspended license. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle did not stop. Law enforcement followed the vehicle until it stopped at a residence on Pine Avenue and Pinkston exited his vehicle to flee on foot. Pinkston defied commands to stop and fled into the woods. The officer did not pursue him at that time. Heaven Bound Towing arrived on scene and the vehicle was turned over to the wrecker service. Warrants were secured for misdemeanor obstruction, misdemeanor improper use of the turning lane, and misdemeanor driving while license suspended for Jeramie Pinkston.
Burglary at Southside Discount Drugs
On June 2, law enforcement was contacted by the business owner of Southside Discount Drugs, in reference to a burglary. When the owner arrived to open the store, they noticed a hole was cut into the metal door at the rear of the location. Nothing of value appeared to be taken, only a drawer in the back room was opened and reported to be rummaged through. The metal door was valued at a minimum of $1,000. Security footage showed a subject wearing a black jacket, pants, black and white shoes, and a black mask walk to the drive-thru window before turning around and running to the back of the store. Shortly after, the subject wearing the white and black shoes as well as a second subject, identifiable by a red bandana on their right hand, stopped at the drive-thru window. The red bandana subject looked through the window while the original subject watched the street. Notably, the original subject was now carrying a black backpack and duffle bag. Footage revealed the two cutting a hole in the metal door and entering the back room with the black backpack. The original subject was observed crawling on his stomach to look in boxes but did not appear to take anything. The subject then exited through the hole and could be seen again reentering and looking into more boxes and this time removing items from the boxes. It was unable to be determined if the subject placed the items in the black bag due to the camera quality. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Another residence reports locating a bullet hole in the bedroom
On June 3, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting damage to property at a residence on Lovers Lane. The resident stated that he heard the bullet impact but never heard the gunshot itself. Upon further investigation, the bullet hole was located in the bedroom wall along with damage to the ceiling fan and a hole in the ceiling. According to the assessment of damage, it appeared the bullet entered the north-facing wall of the bedroom, struck the ceiling fan, which deflected the bullet upward into the ceiling. The bullet then came to rest inside the interior wall between the bedroom and the living room. No other structures in the area or along the bullet’s path appeared to have been struck. No one else in the area reported hearing the gunshot the previous night. Based on the fact no one heard the shot and the rate the bullet was traveling when it entered the structure, it appeared the bullet traveled a long distance before entering the residence. Law enforcement determined the residents were not the intended targets, but rather their residence caught a stray bullet.
Man escapes after vehicle pursuit
On June 4, law enforcement was patrolling the area of Vinson Highway and Caraker Avenue when an officer observed a vehicle stop at the red light, on Caraker Avenue, that did not have any working brake lights. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the driver turned into Solo gas station and quickly exited the gas station at a high rate of speed.
A vehicle pursuit was engaged and the driver, later identified as Ronald Williams, ran multiple stop signs and drove recklessly. A deputy eventually joined the pursuit as Williams traveled across Vinson Highway and turned onto Pine Avenue. Williams continued down Pine Avenue, where they briefly lost sight of him. His vehicle was located on Oak Avenue as he turned into a yard, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot. An extensive search of the area was unsuccessful in locating Williams. Due to Williams abandoning his vehicle on private property, Old Capitol Wrecker Service was dispatched to pick up the vehicle.
Charges were secured on Ronald Williams for one warrant for felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and citations for reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, and brake lights/turn signals required.
Potential shot fired at red light on South Jackson Street
On June 5, law enforcement responded to South Jackson Street in reference to damage to property.
The complainant stated that while traveling south on North Columbia Street, she stopped at the red light at North Columbia Street and Garret Way. According to the complainant, three young males pulled beside her at the red light and when she attempted to pull off from the red light, she heard something hit her back window. She pulled off the road and observed what appeared to be two holes in her window. The vehicle reportedly continued south on North Columbia Street. Law enforcement observed two small holes in the driver side rear window and a small indention just below the window. It appeared that the damage was caused by a BB gun.
