Recliner stolen from customer

On April 10, law enforcement spoke with a complainant regarding a theft.

Reportedly, the individual bought a recliner for approximately $899 from Farmers Furniture on April 7. On that same day, the individual reported the recliner was stolen from the rear of her truck, where it had been secured. She was shopping inside the Piggly Wiggly at the time of the theft and noticed it missing about 20 minutes after she had begun shopping. Piggly Wiggly did not have any surveillance footage for the parking lot. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there have been no updates.

Couple conceals items in baby bag

On April 11, law enforcement responded to Walmart in reference to shoplifting. Asset Protection personnel stated that Jalaya Newsome and Jarvis Hogan were captured on Walmart video surveillance concealing multiple items inside their baby bag and a Walmart grocery bag. Hogan and Newsome attempted to leave the store without purchasing the items. The items consisted of baby swim gear and personal products and were approximately $301.41. Both individuals were cited for shoplifting and given notices of prohibited entry.

Woman continuously steals from Walmart

On April 12, law enforcement was contacted by management at Walmart.

An unknown female subject was caught shoplifting on surveillance footage on numerous dates. On Feb. 28, she failed to scan items such as infant clothing, baby food, and grocery items at a self-checkout register and passed the final point of sale with the unpaid merchandise which totaled $148.78.

On March 6, she failed to scan items such as various meats, baby pampers, and other items before she passed the final point of sale with the merchandise which totaled $195.35. On March 9, she failed to scan items such as an air mattress, toddler air mattress, saucer chair, and other items before she passed the final point of sale with the unpaid merchandise which totaled $319.75.

Finally, on March 13, the female failed to scan items such as pillows, paint, and baby food before she passed the final point of sale and left the location with the unpaid merchandise which totaled $218.75. The total amount of merchandise stolen by the female subject was $882.63. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there have been no updates.

Pair busted for multiple drug charges and stolen license plate

On April 14, law enforcement were notified of a stolen license plate traveling near Meriwether Road. Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop in the Wal-Mart parking lot and as an officer approached the vehicle, they observed the occupants attempting to hide something. The driver identified herself as Janice Edwards and the passenger identified himself as Shawn Henry.

Henry provided a bill of sale with both of their names and stated they purchased the vehicle approximately two weeks ago. He stated that the tag currently on the vehicle is not the tag that was on the vehicle when it was purchased and he has no idea how that tag ended up on their vehicle. Based on the fact that the bill of sale showed both occupants as co-owners of the vehicle, and no one was able to explain how the tag ended up on the vehicle, Edwards and Henry were arrested for theft by receiving stolen property.

During an inventory of the vehicle, per department policy, the following items were located: an open container of “TAAKA Vodka,” a needle and syringe loaded with a clear liquid substance inside the vodka container, a used needle and syringe, a bottle of Tramadol pills prescribed to someone other than the occupants and containing 11 Tramadol pills and a Schedule IV controlled substance, a pack of cigarettes containing a glass pipe smoking device with a residue believed to be methamphetamine, a pack of rolling papers containing a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, a bag with a used needle and syringe with no cap on the needle, multiple flakes of a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine, a pack of Trident gum with heroin inside, another glass pipe smoking device with a crystal like residue believed to be methamphetamine, and a green hygiene type bag with two used needles and syringes inside. In total, 30 needles and syringes were located in the vehicle. In addition, after a deeper search of Henry’s person, an uncapped needle was located in his pocket.

State warrants for possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule III controlled substance (anabolic steroids), possession of Schedule IV controlled substance (tramadol), theft by receiving stolen property (stolen license plate), and possession and use of drug-related objects were secured for Janice Edwards. State warrants for possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule III controlled substance (anabolic steroids), possession of Schedule IV controlled substance (tramadol), theft by receiving stolen property (stolen license plate), and possession and use of drugs related objects were secured for Shawn Henry.

A citation for an open container of alcohol was also issued to Henry.

DUI driver located in ditch unscathed

On April 15, law enforcement responded to the area of Pine Cone Road in reference to a vehicle crash.

The caller stated she observed a vehicle run off the road and roll over multiple times. Upon arrival at the location, officer Benjamin Johnson located a red Ford Focus resting in a ditch across from the location. The driver was sitting in the driver’s seat talking to a firefighter. The vehicle had no visible damage to indicate it had rolled over.

According to the report, it appeared the vehicle left the left shoulder of the roadway and came to a rest in the ditch. The only damage the vehicle sustained was that the two driver’s side tires had come off the wheel. The driver, identified as David Lavender, stated he was not hurt and denied EMS. The odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage was coming from the vehicle and Lavender’s speech was slurred. Lavender received citations for failure to maintain lane and DUI.

Male caught with drug related objects

On April 16, law enforcement was notified of Christopher Wiggins residing at Sportsman Drive. Wiggins had a warrant out for his arrest.

Wiggins was located in a shed on the property asleep in a car parked inside. He was placed under arrest without incident and escorted outside.

Wiggins stated he did not know there was a warrant out for his arrest when informed of it by the officers. An odor of marijuana was reportedly detected from the vehicle and a search of the car was conducted. Officers located a brown open bag containing a glass smoking device, a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Before Wiggins was transported to jail, he asked officers to locate the key to his shed and during the search for the key, officers located another glass smoking device and a white powder substance believed to be cocaine. A third glass smoking device was also located on the hood of the car.

Once at the jail, officers were able to discover that Wiggins’ real first name was John. Three state warrants were taken out on John Wiggins for possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and possession of drug related objects.

$1,100 worth of items stolen from home

On April 16, law enforcement was dispatched to North Clark Street in reference to a burglary. The residence owner stated he returned from work to find his home unsecured. He further advised that he had not stepped inside of the residence. Officers cleared the premise and assisted the homeowner with a walkthrough of the home. A 46” Samsung TV worth approximately $600, a Toro Lawnmower worth approximately $200 and a Stihl Weed eater worth approximately $300 were reported missing. Tool shed kicked in on Oak Avenue

On April 17, law enforcement was dispatched to Oak Avenue in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated, his tool shed door had been kicked in. A deep freezer valued at $300, a Craftsman power drill set valued at $200 and a Schuman jump box valued at $150, were reported missing. The door will cost approximately $300$600 to fix. The complainant stated the door to the tool shed was kicked in and he did not hear anything during the night while he slept. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there have been no updates.
