Shots fired on North Glynn Street
On March 6, law enforcement was dispatched in reference to shots fired.
Prior to responding to the area, 9-1-1 received a call from a resident in the 100 block of North Glynn Street reporting hearing gunshots in the area.
Additionally, Baldwin County Deputies outside of Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin advised they heard gunshots nearby. Two brass casings were found in the roadway in front of 136 North Glynn Street. A check was conducted of nearby vehicles and residences, but no signs of bullet strikes were observed. At placard 1, a Hornady 9-millimeter Luger brass casing was located. At placard 2, approximately 10 yards away, a Winchester 9-millimeter Luger brass casing was found. There is nothing further at this time.
Man damages Inn room
On March 6, law enforcement was dispatched to Economy Inn on North Columbia Street in reference to damage to property. Upon arrival, officers found broken glass and the front door ajar.
A protective sweep of the room was completed, and furniture was found in disarray. A male, later identified as David Flemming Golden, approached the officers and stated he had damaged the window and room. Golden stated he was attempting to use the phone and others in the room around him were tampering with the phone line. When asked, Golden stated he used a knife sharpener and broke the window. Due to management wishing to pursue charges, Golden was transported to the Baldwin County LEC without further incident. Golden was trespassed from the location and charged with criminal trespass (damage to property).
Woman shoplifts $90 worth of merchandise at Walmart
On March 7, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to shoplifting. A female, later identified as Jamie Chapple, was skip-scanning items at the self-checkout. Chapple was brought into the Asset Protection office and advised she scanned every item in her shopping carts; however, she did state if she missed any items, it was not her intent to do so. A review of the security footage showed Chapple not scanning items and, according to management, it appeared to be a pattern coherent with the behavior of stealing an item. The total worth of unpaid merchandise was $89.16. Chapple was issued a citation for theft by shoplifting (second offense).
Unknown man shoplifts meat from Food Depot
On March 9, law enforcement was dispatched to Food Depot, on North Columbia Street, in reference to a possible theft. An employee witnessed an unknown male leave the store without paying. According to the employee, he spoke to the male and asked for the pack of meat that they had. The male reportedly replied that he was taking it to feed his family. The employee was unable to stop him, and the male left the location with an estimated value of $150 in merchandise. Due to no contact being made with the offender and no identity, no charges were secured at this time.
Individual receives citation for hit & run
On March 9, law enforcement was dispatched to the intersection of Thomas Street and Park Avenue in reference to a hit and run. The complainant stated she was trying to make a left turn onto Park Avenue and was struck by a black Ford Focus as it was attempting to make a right turn onto Thomas Street. The Ford Focus left the scene after the accident.
Law enforcement made contact with the Ford Focus driver, Kendra Akbar, who stated she left the scene because one of the other vehicle's occupants threatened her. Akbar was issued a citation for the offense of duty to stop at the scene of an accident (hit & run).
Man arrested for receiving stolen vehicle
On March 10, law enforcement received an alert from flock safety regarding a stolen vehicle. The notification concerned a black Nissan Altima traveling eastbound on Allen Memorial Drive off S.R. 49. Law enforcement responded to the area and made visual contact with the vehicle at a residence on Irwinton Road. A male, later identified as Victor Allen, was seen standing beside the driver's side door of the Altima and a second male, later identified as Anthony Rhynes, was sitting in the passenger seat. An officer approached Allen and asked who had been driving the Altima to which he replied himself. According to Allen, the vehicle was not his but Anthony's car. Allen further advised that he needed a ride and got the vehicle from Anthony and their girlfriend. Allen was placed under arrest. The originating agency, Bibb County Sheriff's Office, was notified, as well as the owner of the vehicle. Central Georgia Towing was called to the scene, took possession of the Altima and towed it to their private lot. One state warrant was secured on Victor Allen for theft by receiving stolen property.
Unknown individual steals window unit
On March 11, law enforcement was dispatched to Evans Avenue in reference to a theft that occurred. The homeowner reported that a neighbor informed her that a window unit had been stolen from her living room, on the east side of the property. The unit was approximately $120 in value. There were no signs of forced entry and no evidence to determine who may have taken the window unit.
Stolen U-Haul trailer discovered behind home on Grandview Drive
On March 11, law enforcement was dispatched to North Clarke Street in reference to a stolen trailer. The complainant reported a U-Haul behind a house on Grandview Drive. It was discovered that the U-Haul trailer was rented out of Wisconsin by an individual on Oct. 20, 2022 and was not returned.
It had been reported as stolen. Central Georgia Towing was called by rotation and picked up the trailer. Officers attempted to make contact with residents at the location but had negative results.
Woman steals $687 worth of groceries from Kroger
On March 11, law enforcement responded to Kroger in reference to theft by shoplifting. Managers reported that a woman driving a motorized cart was stealing groceries. The female reportedly drove in between the customer service desk and the self-checkout registers, but never scanned any of her groceries to pay for them. A manager confronted the female outside the store, and she told the employee that she did not have to give a receipt to her since it was in her pocket. A second manager then joined the pair and asked for the receipt again and advised if they were not shown proof of purchase, they would contact law enforcement. The female reportedly stopped near the shopping cart return and got off her motorized cart to proceed to her vehicle. The female stated that she would be back tomorrow.
The groceries were recovered from the cart outside and returned to the store.
The stolen items totaled $687.83. The receipt for the items was never found or provided by the female. After running the vehicle tag of the female, employees were able to confirm that the registered owner, Amber Burch, was the offender.
Contact was unable to be made with Burch at her home address. One warrant for theft by shoplifting (felony) was secured on Amber Burch.
