Shoplifter attempts to steal a Coke
On Dec. 13, law enforcement was dispatched to CVS Pharmacy in reference to shoplifting. Robert Butts has been previously trespassed from the location, but CCTV footage showed Butts stealing a bottle of Coca-Cola. The bottle was valued at $2.49. Warrants for criminal trespass and shoplifting were secured for Butts.
Woman attempts to cash over $1,000 of fraudulent checks
On Dec. 13, law enforcement was dispatched to Truist Bank in reference to fraud. Employee Alize Young of La Quinta Inn attempted to cash a fraudulent check totaling $1,500 at the bank.
The manager of the inn also filed a fraud claim for four fraudulent checks cashed between Dec. 8-12. The four checks totaled to $900 and were made out to Young. The signatures on the checks did not match the inn manager’s signature.
Warrants were secured against Young for four counts of deposit account fraud, three counts of fourth degree forgery, and one count of third-degree forgery.
Pistol stolen from vehicle
On Dec. 13, law enforcement was dispatched to North Clark Street in reference to an entering auto. The vehicle owner reported missing an AR Pistol and a black in color American Tactical Omni Hybrid. The pistol was approximately $600 in value. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Fight breaks out in Buffington’s
On Dec. 14, law enforcement was dispatched to Buffington’s in reference to a fight. Jared Braddy and Imoter Mngerem got into a fight after a confrontation about Braddy being at the bar with Mngerem’s ex-girlfriend. Mngerem had a bruised/swollen right eye and Braddy had a medium laceration on his lower back. Grady EMS was dispatched to the location for medical treatment. Both parties declined any further treatment and were transported to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center and charged with affray.
Unknown subject breaks into company vehicles
On Dec. 15, law enforcement was dispatched to All Phase Electricity Company in reference to entering auto. According to the report, two company trucks were broken into. Cameras showed the unknown subject securing the dog on the property into his outdoor kennel then heading to the vehicles offscreen. The subject would reappear shortly heading towards the rear of the yard with what appeared to be a tool bag and tools. During a walk of the perimeter, it appeared the suspect cut the barbed wire on the side of the fence and a hole in the chain link part of the rear of the fence. Fence repair cost approximately $1,000. Tools taken were valued at approximately $1,177. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, the subject remains unidentified.
Burglary at Durden’s Appliances
On Dec. 15, law enforcement responded to a possible burglary at Durden’s Appliances. The business owner reported the glass pertaining to the business’ front door to be broken.
Upon entering the establishment, the cash register appeared to be tampered with. Approximately $30 in cash was noted to be missing. Nothing else was reported to be missing. The approximate cost to repair the front door is $1,000.
Due to not having any suspects, no charges were filed.
Burglary at C&S Body Shop
On Dec. 15, law enforcement was dispatched to C&S Body Shop in reference to a possible burglary. The complainant noticed the glass of the business’ rear door to be broken. Upon entering both offices inside, both office desks appeared to be disturbed. Nothing is reported to be missing at this time. As of The Baldwin Bulletin’s deadline, there is no further information.
Individual attempts to steal headphones
On Dec. 16, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmart in reference to shoplifting. According to the report, Officer Cecilio Reyes observed Donavon Hatfield take a pair of $129.99 headphones and concealed them under his shirt. Reyes informed Hatfield he was with the Milledgeville Police Department and that he needed to go with him to the loss prevention office.
While waiting for officers to arrive on scene, Hatfield became irate and attempted to leave. Reyes blocked Hatfield from leaving and he struck Reyes in the chest and right hand with his cane. Hatfield was trespassed from the location and charged with theft of shoplifting and obstruction of an officer.
