Law enforcement investigates shots fired
On Feb. 8, law enforcement was dispatched to 1498 S. Jefferson St. about an altercation with shots fired. Two officers spoke with the two individuals involved separately. The victim stated that an ongoing argument has been occurring between her and her neighbor, Amber Brown, due to noise coming from her unit. The victim stated she has children who live in the apartment and do make noise, but she is unable to prevent normal life noise. The victim further explained that during the altercation that Brown fired a round into the air. Brown also stated the issue was over noise but denied having a weapon in her possession or firing one. Officers, however, located a 9mm shell casing in front of a car parked in front of the B building. Video footage of the incident showed Brown in front of the B building yelling and walking in the parking lot. She pulled out what appeared to be a pistol from her waistband and began waving her hands around. Brown then sat on the front of the car, stood up and fired a shot into the air, and then sat down again. The footage did not show Brown pointing the pistol directly at the victim or at anyone else. A warrant for reckless conduct was secured against Brown.
Juvenile steals from Circle K
On Feb. 8, law enforcement responded to the Circle K, on 166 Highway 49, about a theft. The store clerk stated that a male juvenile came to her register and paid for a drink and chips. Another customer told her the juvenile then walked to the back of the store, placed more items in his bag, and left the store without paying. Video footage showed the juvenile paying for the two items and walking to the back of the store and placing something into his bag. Due to the angle of the video footage, the officer was unable to determine what was placed in the bag.
The store manager stated he observed a Nerds rope candy in the offender's pocket, which was not paid for. The employees were unsure of what other items were taken.
Burglary reported on Franklin Street
On Feb. 9, law enforcement met with two victims at 450 W. Franklin St. about a possible burglary in their apartments. They left their residences and upon return noticed the doors to their respective residences were open.
One apartment had drawers and closets rummaged through. The second apartment was missing 10 pairs of Nike Jordan shoes, a Georgia Bulldog gold hat, and a pair of fake Gucci glasses. There were no signs of forced entry in either apartment.
A staff member advised law enforcement that clients were not allowed to lock their doors per policy, so the doors were unsecured when they left this morning.
Unknown suspect steals handgun from vehicle
On Feb. 10, law enforcement was dispatched to 1674 Cardinal Rd about an entering auto. The victim stated that $408 and her black Ruger 9mm were stolen from her vehicle. The victim advised when she walked to her vehicle on the morning of Feb. 10 the driver’s door was closed but not latched shut.
She was unsure if she left it unlocked.
Drunk driver pulled over on Highway 49
On Feb. 12, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failure to maintain a lane on Highway 49 near Old Macon Road. The driver of the vehicle, Johnny Knight, pulled into the Huff's parking lot and was advised of the reason for the traffic stop.
While speaking with Knight, the officer observed a Bud Light can in plain view sitting in the cup holder near the center console. Knight stated he did have some drinks earlier in the evening. The officer conducted a field sobriety testing to see if he was safe to operate a motor vehicle and Knight provided two sufficient breath samples to the Intoxilyzer 9000. The results from the Intoxilyzer 9000 were .148 and .139. Based on observations from the sobriety test and the results of the intoxilyzer, Knight was deemed unsafe to be driving a motor vehicle. Knight was issued citations for failure to maintain lane, open container, and driving under the influence.
