Previous shoplifter returns to Walmart
On July 27, law enforcement was dispatched to Walmartin reference to a shoplifting that already occurred. A Loss Prevention personnel reported seeing a male subject who he believed to have shoplifted before. The personnel noticed the individual going to the electronics and crafts section to remove items and put them in his pockets. Following them to the general merchandise checkout, he observed the male not buying anything and stopping momentarily at customer service without buying anything as well. Reportedly, the male went towards the general merchandise exit of the store past all points of sale. The personnel at this point stopped the man and identified himself to inform the subject he had seen his attempt to shoplift. However, the male denied the accusations. Reportedly, the male concealed $203.85 cents worth of merchandise. The incident was documented but there is nothing further at this time.
Unidentified shooter fires at residence
On July 28, law enforcement was dispatched in reference to a shooting. Prior to law enforcement arrival, there was a report of a shooting at a resident and vehicles parked outside of the home had been struck. A victim reported being awoken by the sound of gunfire followed by a sound in their kitchen. The victim further stated contacting their mother and boyfriend before checking the residence. Reportedly, they found a hole in the front door, their boyfriend;s car struck by gunfire, and a neighbor’s vehicle struck by gunfire. The officer observed that the boyfriend’s vehicle had been struck several times on the driver’s side and rear windshield. The neighbor’s vehicle was struck by a single round which embedded itself in the rear driver’s side door panel. Inside the residence, the officer observed a single bullet hole in the front door of the residence and a shot that entered a cabinet below the kitchen sink. The bullet was stuck inside the wall upon further inspection. Nine, nine-millimeter shell casings were located in the roadway in front of the residence and a single bullet fragment was located just under the windshield of The boyfriend’s vehicle. None of the victims were able to provide any information on the offenders. There is nothing further at this time.
Man breaks into apartment and steals electronics
On July 29, law enforcement was dispatched to an apartment in reference to a burglary. The complainant was not on scene at the time of the incident. While on route, one officer noticed a male who matched the description of the offender. The male identified himself as Derrick Williams and when stopped, told the policeman that he spent the night with a female, but was unable to provide an address. Under advisement, the officer detained Williams who was very cooperative and he was, at the time, informed he was not under arrest. Williams’ name had been provided as a possible suspect based on the witness description. The complainant had a court order stay away pertaining to Williams.
While waiting on identification, Williams told the officer that he did not break into the residence and the items he was accused of stealing had actually been purchased from the victim. Reportedly, Williams claimed that he and the victim were in a relationship and willingly showed the officer his phone as proof. However, in one of the reports, an officer noted that the text messages, while extensive, showed no obvious signs of a relationship. Reportedly,the majority of the messages consisted of harassing communications and unanswered text messages. The texts responded to by the victim had no indication of inviting Williams over.
On scene, the roommate of the residence was able to identify Williams. The roommate was home during the burglary and saw Williams during the act. An officer identified an Acer laptop, a Google Nest Audio, and a Vast King electronic tablet stolen and relayed it to the officer with Williams. The items were all located in Williams’ backpack and later returned to the owner. Two warrants were secured on Williams for burglary and violation of the stay away order.
Unknown subject breaks into residence
On Aug. 2, law enforcement was dispatched in reference to a burglary. The complainant reported that they returned home after being gone for a month when they noticed someone had been inside their residence. When they entered the apartment, the security system was not active, the rear door was unsecure, and a freezer in front of the rear door had been moved. The victim reported that they were unsure what all was missing other than a X-Box One, a PlayStation
5, an Apple TV modem and a pair of Balenciaga shoes.Their brother who lives in the residence was also reported to not be in town at the time. The victim assured police that the rear door had been locked and the alarm had been set before she left the residence. Reportedly, only the two residence owners and a maintenance worker know the security code and the complainant was unsure if the alarm had not been reset by the worker during a trip to install a new air filter. No signs of forced entry were observed on either door and no surveillance footage was available. There is nothing further at this time.
