Woman resists probation arrest
On March 20, law enforcement was dispatched to the state probation office in reference to probation officers fighting with Jasmyn Dye. Back-up arrived to see a male on his knees at Dye’s legs. He was holding her legs while she was handcuffed behind her back.
Officers Terrell Hurse, Ross Swicord, and Marquise Thigpen stated Dye started fighting with them when she found out she was being arrested for a probation warrant out of Jones County.
Thigpen stated Dye needed to be transported to the post office in Haddock (Jones County), where a deputy would meet them to take her into custody.
Dye continued to resist arrest despite multiple commands and warnings being given to her. According to the report, “After several minutes of fighting with Jasmyn to get her into the vehicle, I told her if she didn’t comply, I was going to tase her. She continued to resist and that’s when I drove stunned her twice but was ineffective. Several more minutes of her resisting I attempted to apply pressure points on her, and they were also ineffective.” The officers had to transfer Dye to a new vehicle to accommodate her struggling and she was ultimately transported to the Jones County jail. Dye did not complain of any injuries when she left. A warrant for obstruction of an officer was secured against Dye.
Shoplifter damages bar codes
On March 21, law enforcement spoke with Asset Protection at Walmart, at 2592 N. Columbia St., in reference to shoplifting. A male subject was in the store potentially shoplifting. When the manager reached him, he discarded his shopping cart and began to leave the store. He entered a vehicle and left the location. The manager observed the barcodes on all the merchandise were damaged. The total value of items is approximately $285.82. The manager stated Walmart could not sell the merchandise due to the damage to the bar codes. Although the subject’s name was given to police, his name was being withheld at the newspaper’s deadline.
Man busted for selling drugs
On March 22, while on patrol in the area of Allen Memorial Drive and Harrisburg Road, an officer observed a Nissan Altima traveling in front of them. They checked that vehicle’s tag number through GCIC to confirm the insurance and registration status of the vehicle.
The GCIC return indicated the vehicle had no active insurance. The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Antonio Reeves. The smell of marijuana was coming from inside the vehicle. Reeves admitted to having 3.5 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Reeves stated he had smoked marijuana about 30 minutes prior to the stop. Law enforcement searched the vehicle and located 10 individually packaged Sweet Tart premium cannabis flower packages inside a book bag in the front passenger seat. Each package was labeled to contain 3.5 grams. Reeves stated he got the marijuana somewhere in Alabama.
The officer located $540 in United States currency on Antonio’s person.
“The currency was in small denominations, that based off of my training, knowledge, and experience is indicative of illegal narcotic sales,” according to the report. Reeves was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and transported to the jail without incident.
Drunk driver stopped at traffic stop
On March 22, an officer was traveling south on North Columbia Street and observed a dark blue 2016 Nissan Maxima make an improper lane change. The vehicle was in the southbound turning lane for Martin Luther King Drive, when it crossed into the center lane in front of another vehicle, causing the vehicle to brake hard to avoid a collision. The vehicle continued traveling south through the intersection and the driver failed to maintain the proper lane of travel. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with driver Shantavia Mahomes. Mahomes stated she was coming back from Cookout, where she had something to eat. While speaking with Mahomes, the officer observed that her eyes were watery and bloodshot and could smell an alcoholic beverage on her breath. An officer conducted a standard field sobriety testing and determined her unsafe to drive. Mahomes agreed to a state administered test of her breath and received the following results: 0.074 and 0.066. Mahomes received citations for improper lane change and driving under the influence.
Woman steals $538 in goods from Dollar General
On March 22, law enforcement was dispatched to the Dollar General, at 106 Salem Church Road, in reference to shoplifting. Store manager Kelly Ross stated that two white females entered the store and failed to pay for $532.88 worth of groceries and household goods before driving off. A deputy reviewed the Flock cameras throughout the county and located the vehicle traveling north on Highway 212. In the Flock picture, multiple yellow grocery bags were visible in the bed of the Ford Maverick, consistent with the bags used by Dollar General. Officers arrived at 133 Merry Drive to find both females on the property next to the vehicle. Jana Bembry admitted to leaving the store after her debit cards had been declined and stated her friend did not know she had not paid for the items, but later mentioned she told her friend on the way home. Bembry stated her friend became upset, so she told her it was just a joke. The friend was released from being detained and was free to leave. One state warrant was issued for Jana Bembry for shoplifting.
