The Baldwin County School District (BCSD) was selected as a recipient of a $2 million Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean School Bus Program grant. The EPA’s program aims to improve air quality, reduce emissions, and provide healthier environments for students.
This grant, part of a nearly $900 million national initiative, will support the purchase of six new electric school buses to add to the BCSD fleet. The new electric school buses will replace older diesel-powered models. They will also significantly reduce the carbon footprint and advance green initiatives in the community, contributing to cleaner air and offering quieter and more reliable transportation for our students. The district’s goal is to obtain a mixed fleet of buses.
The funding awarded to BCSD is part of a nationwide effort to enhance school transportation infrastructure.
“We are proud to be among nine school districts in Georgia selected for this transformative program. Prioritized for our commitment to serving our diverse community, this grant will be crucial in furthering our mission to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation for all students,” said Superintendent Dr. Noris Price.
“This grant represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide a healthy and safe environment for our students. The EPA’s Clean School Bus Program is a key component of our broader strategy to modernize and enhance our school transportation system. This grant complements our ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability, energy efficiency, and responsible resource management within our schools.”
BCSD plans to leveraging this opportunity to foster a greener, healthier community and will continue to pursue additional grant funding and innovative programs to support its educational goals.
