Baldwin County Animal Control is currently undergoing development for an air return system in the animal rooms.
“The air return system pulls air out of the rooms, vastly improving the smell. These work in conjunction with the exhaust fans that were installed when the shelter was re-purposed,” states the Baldwin County Board of Commissioners newsletter.
According to County Manager Carlos Tobar, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office received a grant for a new dryer and the shelter is receiving a lightly used dryer from the jail. Staff removed the old freezer from the old jail kitchen to make room for an upgraded commercial dryer and the old jail kitchen will become the animal control laundry room. A mini-split air conditioning system will be installed in the laundry room as well, according to the newsletter.
“The laundry room currently holds the washing machine. It is hot in there so it's a priority to get more airflow into the room,” wrote Tobar in an email to The Baldwin Bulletin. “Our staff is doing most of the labor.”
Tobar outlined all of the improvements via email. A gas line was installed July 15, the concrete pad was installed July 16, and the new door and HVAC system will be installed July 25. SPLOST is paying for the capital items.
