John Milledge Academy (9-1, 4-0) remained dominant last Friday, shutting out Mount de Sales (2-8, 1-3) 42-0 in Macon.
The Trojans scored 28 unanswered points in the first quarter and 14 in the second to secure the victory in their final game of the regular season.
Neither team scored in the second half as the Trojans defense secured the shutout victory.
“We have played really well the last two weeks, but we still have a lot of room for improvement.”
Trojans head coach J.T. Wall said. “We have to continue to try and eliminate penalties and continue to try and create turnovers on the defensive side of the ball.”
With the win over the Cavaliers, JMA officially locked up the number-one seed for the GIAA AAA state playoffs, giving the Trojans home field advantage throughout.
“There are positives and negatives,” Wall said of clinching the top seed. “But we have to play the hand we are dealt and use this week to get better and get healthy.”
Duke Hurt led the Trojans in rushing against the Cavs with 104 yards, while wide receiver Bryce McDonel totaled 111 yards receiving for JMA. Quarterback Lewis Cheney threw for 215 yards, passing for three touchdowns in the Trojans win.
Wall added his players “still have a hunger and desire to get better each week and that’s something that we have been stressing this year.”
The Trojans will next play Nov. 7 at home in Milledgeville when they host the winner of the Piedmont versus Lakeview game to be played this Friday night in Gainesville.
