NO-NO

GCSU’S PRIOR THROWS NO-HITTER, FIRST FOR THE SCHOOL SINCE 2000

Georgia College and State University (GCSU) Bobcats starting pitcher and Milledgeville native Keaton Prior put his name in the GCSU baseball record book by throwing the school’s first no-hitter since Feb. 26, 2000. Prior’s feat came Feb. 28 against the University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB). Along with the no-hitter Prior struck out eight and allowed just two walks with one hit batter. One USCB batter reached base on an error throw as well.

The Bobcats beat the Sand Sharks 11-0 and won by mercy rule in the Peach Belt Conference meeting, improving their record to 4-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

“It took a second to hit me. At first it was really just a relief because we won.” Prior said of his no-hitter. However, it was not the first of Prior’s career. Prior said he threw three in his senior year at John Milledge Academy in 2022.

“I never really thought about trying to do it (throw a no-hitter),” he said. “I know that if I take the game one pitch at a time and I execute I’ll get rewarded for it.”

Prior added that he tries to keep the same mentality on the mound, and one great game does not change his mindset.

“It obviously helps some, but I try to stay the same, regardless of the outcome.”

Since Prior’s no-hitter the Bobcats have gone 7-3 and have improved their season record to 10-15 and 7-8 in conference play. The Bobcats continue their season this Friday at Augusta in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
