Georgia Military Prep (GMC) improved its season record to 3-4 with a 36-18 win last Friday over Glascock County. More importantly, though, GMC improved to 2-0 in region play thanks to a three-game winning streak. The recent success has brought a newfound energy to a program that has had little to cheer about since the start of the 2023 season.
Another great performance from the Bulldogs’ running game was the driving force in the win over the Panthers with 310 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground.
“I was extremely proud of how our players executed our gameplan on both sides of the ball.” GMC head coach Gavin Tierce said. “Our coaching staff put together a great plan on Sunday, and we took hundreds of reps during practice throughout the week. Our guys executed the plan just about as good as they could have on Friday.”
Quarterback Cason Dennis led the offense with one passing and one rushing touchdown. He had 65-yards rushing on nine carries and 20-yards passing on two completions after just three passing attempts.
Walt Greene led the Bulldogs in rushing yards with 87 and a 6.7 yards per carry average with one rushing touchdown.
The Bulldogs’ defense totaled 41 tackles and one interception and again was led by Greene, who totaled 12 tackles (10 solo, two assisted).
“Our kids’ resiliency and toughness,” Tierce answered when asked what most impressed him over the Bulldogs’ three-game winning streak.
“They have worked tirelessly since June to turn this program around. They took it upon themselves to elevate this program to the standard that we all know it should be.”
As for keeping the momentum going, Tierce said he’s not worried about his players losing sight of what is in front of them.
“It has not taken much work from our staff to keep our players locked in,” he said. “They are focused and motivated every week. They know that they are on a special run right now and are taking pride in keeping up our momentum.”
GMC Prep will face Hancock Central (2-5, 0-2) at home this Friday for Homecoming. It will be another important region battle to determine who emerges as the number-one team in GHSA A Division 2, Region 5.
