The Georgia College & State University (GCSU) men's basketball team (8-17, 4-12 PBC) took a tough road loss against Lander University but rebounded with a win at home over Clayton State University this past week.
The Bobcats visited Lander Feb. 15, where they fell behind early as the Bearcats opened with a three-point bucket to start a 14-5 run. GCSU was never able to overcome the deficit and were trailing 38-23 as the first half ended.
However, Ian Davis of Lawrenceville opened the second half for GCSU with a three-pointer of his own and the two squads traded baskets for the remainder of the contest.
In the end, Lander outsourced GCSU 42-35 in the half, which added up to an 80-58 loss for the Bobcats.
Georgia College's offense had two doubledigit offensive players.
Brendan Rigsbee banked 17 points against the Bearcats with seven buckets from the floor, including two from behind the arc.
Meanwhile, Davis finished with 13 points, nine of which came from behind the arc on a 3-for-5 night. Richard Crawford was third on the Bobcats’ scoring list, contributing nine points for the night.
Rigsbee also led the GCSU rebounding effort with eight boards, most of which came under the Lander basket. AJ James was the squad's secondleading rebounder with seven and added eight points to his box score.
Back home in Milledgeville Feb. 18, on Homecoming Saturday, GCSU traded points throughout the opening half with CSU, until heading to the locker room with a 4-34 lead at halftime.
It remained a backand- forth affair against the Lakers in the second half, too, until the Bobcats were able to capture a 71-68 win as the final buzzer sounded.
Rigsbee once more led the scoring with an outstanding 24-point contribution on the night.
He knocked down five field goals, including going 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Rigsbee also banked almost half his points from the free-throw line, going 11-for-12.
And again, Davis was the Bobcats’ secondleading scorer at 15 points.
Davis went 4-for-7 from the floor and added 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.
With eight points, Auston Sloan was third in scoring for GCSU.
In rebounding, Rigsbee led the way with seven, while Davis and Brandon Thomas secured six apiece. After playing Wednesday night (Feb. 22) at home against Flagler, the Bobcats will be on the road Feb. 25, for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff at Columbus State University.
