GC softball players earn post-season honors and recognition

As the softball season comes to an end, senior Carlie Behan and sophomore Mackenzie Martin were both named to the All-PBC Second Team. This is the first time either player has earned All-PBC awards, and for Carlie Behan, it is a great way to end a solid collegiate career.

“This is a well-deserved recognition for a young woman who has put in the work, day after day, and this year she has finally reaped the rewards,” said head coach Jamie Grodecki.

Behan dominated in conference play this season, posting a .327 batting average that includes two home runs, nine RBIs, 11 runs, and eight stolen bases. As the only senior on the team this year, Behan was a rock for the Bobcats, one who could be heard shouting encouragement to her teammates no matter what the situation was, and when the team won, everyone could see her red hair flying around the field celebrating with her teammates.

Her teammate, Mackenzie Hoffman, was also a master at the plate with a .350 batting average on the season, with that average being boosted all the way up to .414 in conference play.

“Her versatility and speed make her a threat each time she steps to the plate,” said Grodecki. “I am proud of her recognition, and I know she will only continue to grow next year.”

Saying Hoffman is fast is quite the understatement, as she has 13 stolen based on 14 attempts this year and can easily turn a bunt or an infield grounder into being safe at first by a mile. Her speed has also helped her out immensely in the field, as she has enough sprinting and diving plays during her time in the outfield to make several highlight reels from just this season alone. The fact that she is only a sophomore and putting up these kinds of stats show just how valuable of a player she is, and will no doubt be one of the most dangerous players in the Peach Belt Conference next season.

With Behan and Hoffman, Georgia College now has 64 All-PBC honors in softball, with 35 of them coming in Coach Grodecki’s 12 seasons with the Bobcats.
