Javon Bullard recently wrapped up his career at Georgia and is now preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft.
The former Baldwin Braves’ football star had a great career in Athens, helping the Bulldogs win back-to-back national championships. Bullard also earned several awards and honors along the way.
Bullard’s roots run deep in Milledgeville, and he hasn’t forgotten where he’s from. Bullard wants the world to know about the people who supported him throughout his life as he heads into a new chapter.
“My city is me and I am my city,” Bullard said at Georgia’s Pro Day last week. “I wear my city on my sleeve. The city has stood behind me through thick and thin. They’ve been with me every step of the way. Even through my adversity, they’ve always had my back. I love my city and I know they love me.”
As a UGA sophomore, Bullard played in 14 of 15 games with 10 starts, finishing the season with 46 tackles. He missed one game but returned to complete the year on a strong note. Bullard was named the Defensive MVP of the Peach Bowl and CFP National Championship, capping off a great year.
Bullard finished up his junior season at Georgia with 56 tackles, third-best on the team. He also had two interceptions along with five pass breakups and was an AP All-SEC Second Team selection. Bullard played in and started all 13 games during his final season as a Bulldog this past year.
Bullard played multiple positions in Georgia’s defensive scheme and rotated around. He played mainly as a nickelback during his sophomore year but moved to safety for his junior season.
Bullard’s versatility didn’t go unnoticed and he learned a lot under head coach Kirby Smart and defensive coordinator Will Mushchamp. Those two coaches and others helped Bullard during his time in Athens.
“I wouldn’t be standing in front of y’all today if it wasn’t for Georgia and the people that brought this program up, man,” Bullard said. “Coach Smart, coach Muschamp, and coach (Glenn) Schumann, coach (Dan) Lanning, and coach Fran (Brown). All of these past coaches molded me into not just a football player, but the man I am today. And I appreciate them immensely for that, man. They taught me everything I know about this game and I love them for that. They’re truly a blessing.”
Bullard, once an underrated three-star recruit, now awaits his fate as the NFL Draft takes place next month.
Bullard performed well at the NFL Combine and Georgia Pro Day earlier this month. The 5-foot-11, 198-pound defensive is projected to be selected in the third round of the NFL Draft in April.
The city of Milledgeville hosted a ‘Javon Bullard Day’ after Georgia’s first national title. So, of course, after the Bulldogs brought home another championship, Milledgeville honored Bullard again.
If Bullard is selected, will the city of Milledgeville host another day honoring its pride and joy?
“I don’t know, man. I’ve got to talk to the mayor,” Bullard said with a smile. “I really don’t know, though. It was smooth when they had it. It was nice to have my own day. My city is a true blessing to me, so I hope so.”
