The Baldwin Braves Baseball team (5-21) had its hardships this season but like the other spring sports at the school, they ended on a high note.
The baseball team was able to cap off their season with an 8-5 win over Rutland High school along with a forfeit win over Westside High school.
Sure, a forfeit isn’t a game won on the field but to have two strait W’s on the schedule is a pretty sight to see and one that in the long run, may motivate the team to continue their two game win streak into the next season.
The win over Rutland came in front of the Braves home crowd and fans should be excited having seen what the team may be capable of in the future with every current player on the roster returning next season.
Eight of the 11 batters that faced the Rutland pitchers were able to get hits. Freshman Ricky Jenks lead the way, scoring two runs and batting in two more on two hits. Freshman Ayden Whidbey also batted in and scored a run a piece on two hits.
Having gone 1-17 in games before April 4th, including a 13 game losing streak, it was encouraging to see the Braves win four of their final eight games and cap off their season on a high note.
Bravettes Soccer
The Baldwin Bravettes soccer team entered the 4AAAA Girls High school State Playoffs coming off of wins against John Milledge Academy and Rutland.
The opening round contest was played in Columbus, Georgia, against Columbus Highschool who had finished the regular season 10-7-1.
Despite their momentum coming into the game the Bavettes were unable to hang with Columbus and fell to the Blue Devils, 10-0.
Following their regular season and before the playoffs, Coach Floyd Canty said, “Our moral for our year has been simply to focus on our journey and not the destination. The destination will speak for itself when that time comes. We emphasized that our focus should be on improving every opportunity we get.”
Despite losing in their next game and their season coming to an end, the sentiment remains true and this team will be ready and capable of pushing even further next season or, as coach Canty said, “when the time comes.
