Cemetery needs attention

Dear editor: It is my understanding that Memory Hill Cemetery belongs to the city of Milledgeville and is of great historical value to this area.

I have many family members buried in this cemetery; therefore I visit quite frequently. For several months there have been many limbs that were blown down and needed to be removed, trees that were split down the middle that also needed some attention. Plus, many of the fences were knocked down and headstones shifted or broken. After a month or two I was finally able to get a tree removed that was blocking one of the roads. However, many dead limbs still remain on the ground and hang from the trees.

This is a beautiful, old cemetery and if the city is supposed to be the caretaker.

More attention should be given to the maintenance and care so that it might reflect our pride in our city and community. Several friends and caring community members have commented as to why more care isn’t given to this area. Many calls have been made to city officials but nothing seems to get done. Hopefully it will in the future.

Sincerely, Ouida Williamson
