Man accused of casing cars around Big Lots

Multiple 911 calls were placed last Saturday after a series of entering autos around the Big Lots shopping center.

One occurred in the El Amigo parking lot, and the restaurant owner provided security video of the incident. Three more occurred at the nearby Red Dot Inn, where the suspect also was caught on video.

Eventually arrested and charged with five counts of entering auto was Kristopher Carlton King, 45.

The Red Dot Inn has been on a bad streak lately. Three weeks ago, multiple entering autos were reported in the motel parking lot, and a pair of men eventually were arrested.

In other Milledgeville Police Departmentnews:

• A 20-year-old was arrested early Friday morning after taking a nap in a downtown parking lot. Wyatt Benson Lucas, listed with a Cherokee County address, was charged with public drunkenness and underage possession of alcohol. The officer “rubbed/patted Wyatt’s chest numerous times before he woke up.” Lucas woke up in a poor mood, however, and “was not very cooperative and was boisterous.” Lucas was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car. In the process, two fake IDs “and a “THC vape pen” were recovered.

The IDs and THC vape pen “were later destroyed.” On the way to the county jail, Lucas asked “why did you pull me over.”

• The owner of The Market convenience store on North Columbia Street confronted a customer in the parking lot after the customer stole a Bic lighter.

The customer said that “It’s just a lighter” and “what are you going to do about it – call the cops?” The store owner called the cops, The customer later was identified as Eric Bernard Ford. “The incident remains under investigation.”

In Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office news:

• A man turned himself in after previously leading a deputy on a high-speed chase and getting away. Eric Tyrelle Boyd, 24, was charged with felony fleeing/attempting to elude, felony theft by receiving, as well as numerous traffic citations. The deputy first observed Boyd’s vehicle “swerving within their lane of travel.” The deputy pulled over the vehicle on South Irwin Street and approached the driver’s side window. As the deputy approached, however, Boyd mashed the gas and began speeding along Irwin Street. A chase ensued, and Boyd reached “speeds in excess of 65mph in a posted 25mph zone.”

Boyd then sped through a stop sign, according to the incident report. Boyd eventually abandoned the vehicle and took off on foot. However, Boyd left his phone in the car, as well as a handgun, which later came back as reported stolen. The deputy then drove to the house of the vehicle’s registered owner, who turned out to the be mother of Boyd’s girlfriend. The mother certainly was not a fan of Boyd, according to her statements in the incident report.

“(The mother) went on and explained how Eric was physically abusive to (her daughter) and she had recently called MPD on him for hitting her. (The mother) stated Eric also drives her car frequently.”
