County roads soon will become much more red, as the Baldwin Board of Commissioners recently approved a contract with Ryland Environmental, a Dublin-based company that’s set to take over trash collection services on Aug. 1.
Later this month, county residents will receive their bright red roll-off trash carts, often referred to around Milledgeville and Baldwin County as a “herby curby.” Ryland also will be responsible for maintaining Baldwin County’s six convenience centers.
Three companies bid on the contract, including Waste Management Services, whose time in Baldwin County is now coming to an end. Ryland’s bid came in the lowest by a fairly wide margin, according to Greg Boike, an analyst with the Middle Georgia Regional Commission.
“This would keep services the same and would keep prices at the same level, basically with where you’re at now, whereas all the other (bids) would result in an increase of anywhere up to $5 to $10 per month for the average customer,” Boike told commissioners.
Boike added that Ryland “received really positive reviews” during the course of his research.
However, there will be slight price increases over the next five years. According to the contract, the cost per residence in “Year 1” is $18.05 per month, which then will increase to $18.77 in Year 2, $19.52 in Year 3, $20.30 in Year 4 and $21.12 in Year 5.
