It’s been quite the legal saga for Shaga Childs.
Childs, 37, was arrested two more times in June, bringing his number of mug shots on file at the Baldwin County jail to 28. On June 19, a Milledgeville Police Department Officer responded to the municipal pavilion, located next to Golden Pantry, and spotted Childs sitting on a bench. Next to Childs lay “several plastic straws on the ground with the ends burned off,” according to the incident report. The officer went in to detain Childs, but Childs “spun around” and began resisting. Childs then led the officer on a foot chase. He eventually was tasered and handcuffed. Childs was charged with three counts obstruction of an officer and one count of violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act.
Eleven days earlier, meanwhile, the MPD arrested Childs and charged him with disorderly conduct and probation violation. Childs ultimately spent 10 days in the county jail, was released and then rearrested the next day following the incident at the city pavilion.
Childs certainly is familiar with the daily routine at the county jail. He’s been there for at least two weeks 16 different times since 2008. His longest jail stints are 326 days, 260 days and 259 days, respectively.
Past charges include criminal trespass, theft by taking, theft by receiving, burglary, entering auto, shoplifting, public indecency, hit and run, fleeing/ attempting to elude, obstruction of an officer, cruelty to children, simple battery, criminal interference with government property, sexual battery and aggravated battery.
Childs also has done three different stints in state prison, most recently between April 2023 and March 2025. In September 2025, five months after being released from prison, Childs was arrested and charged with aggravated battery (family violence). He’d ultimately spend the next 259 days in the county jail before being released in early June.
Childs then was arrested two more times in the next three weeks.
