Chaos ensues in Room 101 at Comfort Suites

An arrest was made after a man caused a big scene at Comfort Suites on Saturday night.

William Bernard Mercer, listed with a Macon address, was charged with public indecency, public drunkenness, false imprisonment and battery.

When the first officer responded, Woods “was passed out in the hallway with his pants pulled all the way down” in front of Room 101. Officers then interviewed the victim, whose shirt was bloodied. The victim relayed to officers that she and Mercer initially went swimming in the hotel pool before returning to Woods’ room. At some point, Woods became “enraged” after the victim told him that “they were just friends and she did not want to have sex.” The victim said that this is when Woods began “hitting her and refusing to let her leave the room,” according to the incident report.

Added the incident report: “The room was in complete disarray; the bed was pulled away from the wall, clothes and shoes in the bathroom sink; pillows were on the floor, and there was trash and clothes thrown all around the room.”

IN OTHER MILLEDGEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS:

• A Gordon woman was arrested for felony shoplifting after attempting to steal more than $800 worth of clothing from Belk Matthews. A store employee called 911 with the a description of the BMW and the license plate number, and a traffic stop was made shortly after. Jennifer Carole Horton (not to be confused with Jennifer Nicole Horton, who was arrested two weeks ago with a stolen gun) was booked at the county jail.

• Two DUI suspects decided to go for the “fun and outgoing” look in their mug shots. Grant Griggs was pulled over and arrested by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office early Friday morning, while Travis McDevitt was pulled over and arrested by the Georgia State Patrol early Sunday morning.

• A woman said she was leaving a party on Bluff Street when someone threw a bottle at her car, cracking the windshield.

IN BALDWIN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS:

• An 83-year-old woman was arrested after reportedly assaulting her 88-year-old husband and leaving his arm bruised and bloodied. Evelyn Johnson was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery/ family violence. The husband relayed to deputies that Johnson “nutted up on him over what they were having for dinner,” according to the incident report. The deputies noted blood and visible swelling on the victim’s right arm. Added the incident report: “(The victim stated that) Evelyn grabbed ahold of an egg carton which she used to strike him several times. (The victim) stated he was struck on the left side of his head, as well as both his right and left forearms during the altercation.” The deputies then interviewed Johnson, who conveyed to them that “she was currently recovering from a hip replacement surgery that took place approximately two weeks ago, and that (the victim) was still demanding her to handle all of the household chores/responsibilities without any assistance. Evelyn stated due to this treatment, she had reached her wits end, causing her to lash out.” Johnson asserted that the victim punched her with a closed fist at some point during the altercation, but deputies “were not able to observe any swelling/reddening of the alleged area of the physical contact.”

• Ashanti Lashay Hill, 24, was charged with one count of felony terroristic threats and acts after calling another woman “vulgar names which was followed by several threats to kill her” during an incident in the 160 block of Deerwood Drive. Hall also kicked the victim’s car, according to the incident report. A deputy later watched Ring doorbell camera footage of the incident, and he “was able to hear the threats of violence being uttered as well as the vandalism to the vehicle.” Hill is active duty military and returned to her Navy base in Florida after the incident.

• Break-ins, thefts, and or entering autos were reported in the 810 block of Willow Lake Drive, the 670 block of Ga. 49, the 150 block of Lakecrest Drive, the 110 block of Allenwood Drive, the 200 block of Lumpkin Road, the 340 block of Colony Farm Road, the 115 block of Mount Pleasant Church Road, the 2660 block of Irwinton Road, as well as the 160 block of Thompson Circle.
