AR-15 RIFLE “WITH DRUM MAGAZINE” AMONG GUNS USED
Gunshots rang out in the 1500 block of James Avenue during a house party on Sunday.
Numerous people, including small children, were in the yard when the shooting began, according to Maj. Brandon Sellers with the Milledgeville Police Department. James Avenue is located off of the Vinson Highway and not far from the old Southside Elementary School.
So far, two people have been arrested. Demarion Ahmad Baker, 17, is being charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, as well as violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Meanwhile, Leon Brown, Jr., 20, is being charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Baker is listed with a Milledgeville address and Brown a Warner Robins address. A juvenile also was taken into custody.
Baker and Brown are accused of opening fire on a passing car, shooting out the back window in the process. At least one person in the car opened fire at party-goers, and Sellers said that more arrests are pending.
“We believe this was a result of an ongoing beef with someone in the (passing) vehicle,” he added. “It’s extremely fortunate that no was was injured.”
The Milledgeville Police Department interviewed numerous people who were at the party, as well as neighbors. None were able to provide much information, however. “No two people we interviewed saw the same thing,” Sellers said.
Four firearms were recovered during the investigation, including an AR-15 rifle “with drum magazine.” Ballistics evidence shows that the AR-15 was among the guns fired during the shootout, according to Sellers.
