On April 17-18, the Lockerly Arboretum held its annual plant sale. This event brings plant lovers from all over the state of Georgia to enjoy a nice day out while supporting a non-profit organization.
The times for the event varied depending on the day. For the first day of the event the doors were open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale was located at 1534 Irwinton Rd, Milledgeville.
While the focal point of the event was the sale of plants, the Lockerly Arboretum also provided guests with local vendors and an Amici food truck, providing a fun day for families to enjoy.
This event was made possible with the help of all the Lockerly Arboretum volunteers who came out to assist in the sale. The volunteers assisted in setting up plant displays and helping with loading and ringing up all customers.
The coordinator of the plant sale shared how this event helps the Arboretum maintain the grounds and provides amazing opportunities for residents all over the community.
“We’re a non-profit so we hold events throughout the year, and the plant sale is to provide funding to maintain the grounds. The plant sale also helps in funding the Dr. Harriett Wimple Horticulture internship that we offer here.”
The sale offered a wide arrange of plants up for sale they included. There were 121 different and unique plants differing in climate type and look. All these plants are listed and made public on the Lockerly Arboretum website at lockerly.org/wp-content/ uploads/2026/04/Frame-210.pdf.
While the day focused on the sale and continued funding for the event many patrons took the time to explore the beauty of the location. Touring Rosehill Manor and walking through the garden filled the day with more than just what was advertised.
Lockerly Arboretum over the upcoming weeks will continue to offer a wide arrange of fun events during the spring and summer months for guests visiting the city. On May 4, it will partner with Georgia DNR to offer a fishing event on the Arboretum grounds that will be open to everyone.
They will also be offering a summer camp for all ages to come explore outside and help children become more aware of the natural world. For more information visit the Lockerly Arboretum website for upcoming events.
