Second Walmart shoplifter scuffles with police officers

For the second time in as many weeks, a Walmart shoplifter didn’t go down without kicking and punching and screaming.

Most recent was Dontavious Anderson, listed with a Gordon address. Anderson is being charged with felony shoplifting, two counts of felony obstruction of an officer, two counts of misdemeanor obstruction of an officer, as well as one count each of possession of drug-related objects, destruction of government property and driving with a suspended license.

Despite only shoplifting $107 worth of laundry detergent, Anderson was charged with felony shoplifting, based on the fact that he has five previous shoplifting convictions, according to the incident report.

An officer originally responded to Walmart and went over the case with a store asset protection employee and reviewed security footage, which included video from the parking lot.

A vehicle matching the description of Anderson’s vehicle later spotted at the Economy Inn, and two officers moved in. Anderson took off on foot, leading one officer on a brief chase around the motel parking lot. Anderson eventually was detained and handcuffed, according to the incident report.

Anderson really didn’t feel like getting in the back of the patrol car, however, and “he began using force, kicking, in an attempt to resist getting in the vehicle.” Anderson kicked one officer in the midsection and another one in the thigh, added the incident report.

He then “destroyed a seatbelt.”

Eventually, Anderson settled down, and officers returned to his car, where one of them “observed a glass pipe which was burnt on one end and looked like it was used to inhale narcotics sitting in the center console.”

Arrested alongside Anderson was Christopher Tucker, 66, listed with an Ole Mill Court address. Tucker also was charged with felony shoplifting, based on five previous shoplifting convictions.

Two weeks ago, meanwhile, a Walmart shoplifter reportedly punched one Milledgeville Police Department officer in the eye and another one in the mouth. Norris Octavius Johnson is accused of rolling a buggy full of merchandise past the final point of sale at Walmart. Once Johnson reached the parking lot, however, he kept on rolling, all the way to North Columbia Street.

Two officers spotted a man matching Johnson’s description pushing a buggy along North Columbia Street and approached.

Johnson, listed with a Browns Crossing Road address, refused to let go of the buggy, according to the incident report, and a tussle ensued.

Johnson then punched one cop in the eye and another in the mouth, added the incident report. Now bloodied, one of the officers took Johnson to the ground, while the other placed him in handcuffs. A third officer was required to place Johnson in the back of a patrol vehicle.
