Looking for an activity on another beautiful day in Milledgeville? Join Visit Milledgeville on a trip through time to explore the city and community.
Since Milledgeville was founded in 1842, the city has offered trolley tours around the city, exploring the history and architecture. They attempt to share the uniqueness and importance that the former capital city has in Georgia.
The tours run on Friday and Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., and guests are greeted with a full tour of the historic district that includes full narration.
The tour usually lasts an hour and costs $12 per person.
While both days incorporate the historic district tour, on Saturdays the tours are led by a former Central State Hospital employee who sheds light into the history and overview all aspects of the life during the time when the hospital was operational.
The trolley can hold up to 23 riders per tour, and patrons can privately book the trolley for events from weddings to birthday parties. Private tours carry guests along the historic streets of Milledgeville alone with their party. The cost for a private tour on the trolley will be about $200 per hour.
For event purposes, the duration of the tour cannot exceed six hours total and no less than two hours.
When patrons join tour guides on a trip through the unique history of one of Georgia’s forgotten capitals, they get to experience so much more than just a look into the surface of Milledgeville.
Among the most notable locations that the tour takes guests to explore are some of the historic homes and establishments serve today as a reminder of the rich past of Milledgeville and its importance for the state overall.
