Dear readers,
This week, the Georgia General Assembly was not in formal session.
However, important work continued as the House Appropriations Committee met to begin its review of the Governor’s proposed state budget.
While there were no floor votes, this stage of the process is critical. The state budget is the single most important piece of legislation lawmakers consider each year, because it determines how taxpayer dollars are spent and which priorities are funded.
Members of the Appropriations Committee reviewed the Governor’s budget proposal and asked preliminary questions about funding levels for education, public safety, healthcare, and other essential services. These early hearings help legislators understand the proposal before revisions are made.
What it means for District 149: • Budgetdecisionsdirectlyimpact:
• Localschoolsystems
• Publicsafetyandemergencyservices
• Communityprograms
• Infrastructureandeconomic development Although I am not a member of the Appropriations Committee, I am closely following the process and communicating with committee members to ensure the needs of Baldwin County, Jones County, and East Macon are fully considered.
Good budgeting requires asking tough questions early. These initial discussions help identify priorities, ensure fiscal responsibility, and protect taxpayer dollars. I remain committed to advocating for responsible spending and fair treatment for our district as the budget moves forward.
The General Assembly is expected to return to full session January 26, 2026.
Budget discussions will continue, and legislation will begin advancing through committees and onto the House floor.
Sincerely, Floyd Griffin House District 149 State Representative
