Local football players from John Milledge Academy and Georgia Military College Prep attended the 2025 Georgia Elite Classic held Dec. 28 at Barron Stadium in Rome.
JMA’s Abe Gainous joined GMC Prep’s Cayden Wingfield, Walt Greene, Noah Yohan, and Matt McDade in representing their respective schools in the annual football showcase. Wingfield, Gainous, and McDade were the lone representatives of the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes, respectively. Yohan and Greene represented Milledgeville seniors.
Both Yohan and Greene recorded one individual tackle, but Greene arguably made the most impressive play of the game for the seniors’ Gold team. He intercepted an attempted Blue team pass and returned it 61 yards for a touchdown to extend the gold team’s lead to 31-14.
Greene’s interception proved to be the winning score as the Blue team stormed back in the second half but came up short in the 31-28 final score.
Gainous also had an impressive night, recording four total tackles for the sophomore Gold team, as well as an interception that he returned 13 yards. Gainous’ team went on to win 30-24 in the sophomore matchup.
Wingfield posted the best numbers of all of Milledgeville’s prep stars. His performance was particularly impressive since he gained only 124 yards rushing as a freshman for the Bulldogs last fall, but the young running back proved he is capable of much more.
Wingfield led the freshman blue team in rushing, gaining 64 yards while maintaining an average of 5.6 yards per carry. His Blue team went on to win 35-14 over the freshman Gold team.
Wingfield, Gainous, and McDade will each return to their respective schools this fall.
