JMA teammates earn all-state honors

After capturing its sixth state title in school history, the John Milledge Academy (JMA) Trojans football team received more honors as eight players were named to the GIAA AAA All-State team.

Quarterback Lewis Cheney, linebacker and fullback Abe Gaionus, defensive back Bradyn Harrison, running back Duke Hurt, defensive back and wide receiver Bryce McDonel, offensive and defensive linemen Colby Jacobs and Rhen Prior, and tight end and linebacker Asa Wall each received GIAA AAA All-State honors after an outstanding 2025 football season.

Along with receiving All-State honors Wall was named GIAA AAA State Co-Player of the Year, while Cheney was named GIAA District 6 Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

Trojans receiving All-Region honors included running back Jamel Cooper and defensive back Lane Rhodes, as well as defensive linemen Cohen Brooks, Cohen Bryan, Kellen Eady, and Rodney Latimore.

Alongside his players, JMA head coach J.T. Wall was named both GIAA District 6 and State Coach of the Year.

His son, Asa, earned All-State honors and POTY honors after an impressive season in which he gained 944 yards receiving on 47 catches, 656 yards rushing on 70 carries, and a combined 1,600 all-purpose yards and 25 all-purpose touchdowns. Asa Wall also had 96 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, five sacks, and one blocked field goal.

Cheney finished 2025 with 1,942 yards passing after completing 61.0% of his throws, including passing for 23 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He also scored three rushing touchdowns.

The Trojans’ leading rusher was Javarius “Duke” Hurt who accumulated 1,181 yards on 136 carries, reaching the endzone 13 times, including an impressive three rushing TDs for JMA in the State Championship game.

Overall, another successful year for the Trojans led to eight players being named to the GIAA AAA All-State team, 14 players named to the District 6 All-Region team, the region co-offensive POTY, GIAA AAA state co-POTY, and the region and GIAA state coach of the year.
