GMC Prep returns to playoff contention

Georgia Military College (GMC) has officially made it back to the GHSA State Playoffs for the first time since 2022 after finishing its 2025 regular season with a 4-6 record and going 3-2 in region play.

Despite a disappointing 42-3 loss to Johnson County last Friday in Wrightsville to close out the regular season, the GMC Bulldogs’ hopes remain high as they prepare to open the playoffs Friday night against Emanuel County Institute (ECI).

The ECI Bulldogs (7-3, 7-1) have an impressive region resume with just one loss and seven wins against region competition and their offense has scored 30 or more points in all but one of seven wins this season.

“They’re a big, physical wing-t team,” Bulldogs head coach Gavin Tierce said. “They are well coached and have great players on both sides of the ball.

“Their quarterback does a great job managing the game and checking out of plays at the line of scrimmage, and they have a great tight end and some good split ends that make plays for them on the outside as well.”

Tierce said he’s encouraged, too, by the Bulldogs’ focus on improving after suffering two losses at the end of the regular season.

“I feel like we continue to grow every week.” Tierce said. “I think we are a much better team right now than we were in August. We have a lot of young guys that are really starting to step up for us here late in the season and I think that is a testament to our player development.”

However, Tierce also recognizes his team needs to build on the success it experienced this season.

“We have to do the same thing that we did to get us to the playoffs, which is to control the football and the pace of the game on offense, control field position on special teams, and get them out of rhythm and off schedule with sound defense,” he said.

GMC Prep will head to Twin City on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against ECI.
