It was a homecoming to remember last Friday for the Georgia Military College (GMC) Prep Bulldogs, who collected their fourth-consecutive win. GMC beat the visiting Hancock Central Bulldogs 36-28, leaving the home team with a 4-4 record for the season, and 3-0 in region play. GMC has not enjoyed a winning percentage of .500 or better since 2021.
GMC fell behind in the first half against Hancock Central but fought back to a 14-14 tie by halftime.
“We knew that we had to take control of the game with the first drive in the second half,” GMC head coach Gavin Tierce said. “We played catch up for the entire first half, so we had to settle down and get back on schedule. Our offense settled in and controlled the pace for the rest of the game.”
Hancock did briefly regain the lead to start the second half but failed to convert a two-point try. That left room for GMC quarterback Cason Dennis to lead the way by capping a drive with a short rushing touchdown for a 21-20 advantage.
GMC’s defense also stepped up and surrendered only one more touchdown in the second half on their way to victory. The game marked the final regular season appearance for GMC this year at Davenport Field in Milledgeville, as their final two scheduled games come this Friday at Wilkinson County (2-6, 2-1), followed by a Halloween night meeting at Johnson County (8-0, 3-0).
“It will be tough to play on the road to close out the season, but we are competing for a home playoff game, so our kids have extra motivation to go earn another game on Davenport,” Tierce said after Friday night’s win.
