Bulldogs ‘reap rewards’ of strong defense

Georgia Military College Prep (GMC) accomplished something last Friday that it hadn’t done since Nov. 3, 2022 — winning back-to-back football games after beating the Twiggs County Cobras 28-18 in Jeffersonville. The Bulldogs previously defeated Creekside Christian Academy 45-14 on Sept. 12, at home in Milledgeville.

The victory also marked the first time since 2021 that GMC started region play with a win to improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in region play.

“Our kids showed resilience and toughness,” GMC head coach Gavin Tierce said. “It wasn’t pretty, and it was downright ugly at times, but we were able to sustain the lead for the entire game.

“It seemed like everything that could have gone wrong happened, but we were still able to get the job done in the end.”

GMC’s defense was outstanding for the Bulldogs, Tierce said, but offense remained a challenge.

“Offensively, it was just dumb penalties and a couple of fumbles in the red zone,” he explained.

“Defensively, I could not have asked for more. We had five takeaways. The offense just didn’t capitalize when we needed to.”

GMC will continue region play next Friday against Glascock County (1-5, 0-1) in Gibson, where the Bulldogs hope to capitalize on the Panthers’ recent struggles. Glascock is currently on a fourgame skid and with the momentum the Bulldogs are carrying, it could mean a huge win for GMC this Friday.

“It’s a huge momentum boost for our program.”

Tierce said of the Bulldogs’ recent success. “A win streak means the world to our kids. They have persevered through so much and are now reaping the rewards of all their work.”
