John Milledge Academy debuted its new gymnasium floor Sept. 5 in a dedication ceremony to former Head of School Larry Prestige.
“Larry Prestige has been around for a long time. He took our school to another level,” said Athletic Director J.T. Wall. “He’s a hardworking guy who has set the standard for how John Milledge employees should approach each day.”
Wall stated that Prestige was heavily involved with the school in all areas during his leadership and would even coach, as needed, during coaching changes. After retiring, he has continued to be involved with the school by helping with athletic events.
“When we decided it was time to renovate the floor it was a no brainer on who to dedicate it to,” said Walls.
Prestige served as head of school for 30 years and was nominated initially by Coach Mitch Risley, followed by other coaches, to the board to be the name behind the gym’s new appearance.
At the ceremony, Prestige accepted the honor, with his family, from Head of School Allen Simmons.
“The renovation took about two weeks to complete and is already in use,” said Walls. “Basketball practice will begin on the Larry Prestige Court in October. We’re grateful for all Mr. Prestige has done for John Milledge Academy.”
