Augusta Christian Academy forfeited last Friday’s scheduled game against John Milledge Academy, JMA announced Aug. 18 via Facebook.
Though disappointed at losing the opportunity to play, the Trojans (2-0) took advantage of the gifted win and unexpected bye week by turning their attention toward the visiting Tiftarea Panthers (1-0) this Friday.
“We had to play the hand that was dealt to us last week,” JMA head coach J.T. Wall said. “I feel like we made the best of it and had a good week of practice.”
The Trojans have enjoyed a lot of success in recent years against Tiftarea, including playoff wins in 2021 and 2023, but last year Tiftarea handed JMA its second loss of the season in a 46-21 Week 3 matchup.
The Panthers were led in 2024 by a strong core of seniors that helped lead them to a 10-2 record and a GIAA AAA state semifinals appearance. This year’s Tiftarea team also features several seniors, which Wall said always makes the game tough for their opponents.
“Coach (Erik) Soliday always does a great job of causing opposing offenses and defenses headaches,” Wall said.
The Trojans and Panthers kickoff at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Trojans Field in Milledgeville.
